ഇത് ഒരു ഉഗ്രമായ മാതൃദേവതയാണ് (ഭഗവതി ദേവി) പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് ചണ്ടയെയും മുണ്ടയെയും ഉന്മൂലനം ചെയ്ത ഒരാളുടെ, ആളുകളെയും അവരുടെ സ്വത്തിനും കന്നുകാലികൾക്കും ഉപദ്രവിക്കാതിരിക്കാൻ അവളെ തൃപ്തിപ്പെടുത്താൻ ഇടം നൽകി. വട്ടകയത്ത് ചാമുണ്ഡി തെയ്യം തന്റെ അമാനുഷിക ശക്തികളാലും രക്തദാഹത്താലും ഒരു പ്രദേശത്ത് അസ്വസ്ഥതയുണ്ടാക്കിയതാണ്. അവൾക്ക് ഒരു കാവിൽ ഉചിതമായ സ്ഥാനം നൽകുകയും ആളുകളെയും മറ്റ് ജീവജാലങ്ങളെയും ഉപദ്രവിക്കാതിരിക്കാൻ വർഷം  തോറും ഒരു തെയ്യം കെട്ടിയാടുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. മഹാദേവ ശിവൻ ഒരു യജ്ഞം നടത്തുകയും അതിൽ  നിന്ന് ഏഴ് വ്യത്യസ്ത തരം ചാമുണ്ഡികൾ പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെട്ടുവെന്നും അസുരന്മാരോട് പോരാടുന്നതിന് കാളി ദേവിയെ സഹായിക്കാൻ  നിയോഗിക്കപ്പെട്ടതായും വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. അവരിൽ ഒരാളാണ് വട്ടക്കയത്ത് ചാമുണ്ഡി.

ശത്രുക്കളിൽ നിന്നുള്ള സംരക്ഷണത്തിനും പ്രേതങ്ങൾ മുതലായ അതിപ്രകൃതി ജീവികളോടുള്ള ഭയം അകറ്റാനും  ആരോഗ്യകരമായ  ജീവിതത്തിനും വേണ്ടിയാണ് വട്ടകയത്ത് ചാമുണ്ഡി തെയ്യത്തെ ആരാധിക്കുന്നത്. ശത്രുക്കളെ  പരാജയപ്പെടുത്താനുള്ള  ശക്തി ലഭിക്കാനും  ആഗ്രഹ പൂർത്തീകരണത്തിനും അവളെ ആരാധിക്കുന്നു.

കാസർകോട് ബോവിക്കാനം മുളിയാർ കരിച്ചേരി തറവാട് ദേവസ്ഥാനം ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ വർഷം തോറും വട്ടകയത്ത് ചാമുണ്ഡി  തെയ്യം കെട്ടിയാടുന്നു (മാർച്ച് 21, മാർച്ച് 22)  2 വർഷത്തിലൊരിക്കൽ 

Description

Vattakayat Chamundi Theiyam

It is a fierce mother goddess (Bhagavati Devi) especially of one who exterminated Chanda and Munda, leaving room to satisfy her without harming people, their property and cattle.

Vattakayat Chamundi Theyam created unrest in a region with his supernatural powers and bloodlust. She is given a suitable place in a kavil and a theyam is tied annually to prevent her from harming people and other living beings. It is believed that Mahadeva Shiva performed a Yajna from which seven different types of Chamundis appeared and were assigned to help Goddess Kali in fighting the Asuras. Vattakayath Chamundi is one of them.

Vattakayat Chamundi Theiyat is worshiped for protection from enemies, fear of supernatural beings such as ghosts, and healthy life. She is worshiped to get strength to defeat enemies and wish fulfillment.

Vattakayath Chamundi Theyam is celebrated annually (March 21 and March 22) at Kasarkot Bovikanam Muliyar Karteri Tharavad Devasthanam Temple once in 2 years.
