മുഖത്ത് കരിതേച്ച്, തലയില്‍ സ്വര്‍ണ്ണ നിറമുള്ള നീളന്‍ തൊപ്പിയും കഴുത്തില്‍ പൂമാലകളും ചുവന്ന സില്‍ക്ക് മുണ്ടും ധരിച്ചു കയ്യില്‍ ചൂരല്‍ വടിയുമായിട്ടാണ് ആലി തെയ്യത്തിന്റെ പുറപ്പാട്. കുമ്പളയിലെ ആരിക്കാടി പാടാര്‍കുളങ്ങര ഭഗവതി സ്ഥാനത്ത് മീന മാസത്തില്‍ നടക്കുന്ന തെയ്യാട്ടത്തില്‍ ആലി തെയ്യം കെട്ടിയാടുന്നു. കാവിന്റെ ഇടതു ഭാഗത്ത് പ്രത്യേക സ്ഥാനത്തിരുന്നാണ് ആലി തെയ്യം അനുഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നതു. തുളു നാട്ടിലെ ചില തീയ്യ തറവാട്ടുകളിലും ഈ തെയ്യം കെട്ടിയാടാറുണ്ട്.
കുമ്പള ദേശക്കാര്‍ ആലി തെയ്യത്തെ ആലിഭൂതം എന്നും കെട്ടിയാടുന്ന കാവിനെ ആലിഭൂതസ്ഥാനം വിളിക്കാറുണ്ട്.
ഉഗ്ര ദുര്‍മാന്ത്രികനായിരുന്ന ആലി കുമ്പള നാട്ടിനെയും കുമ്പള അരീക്കാടിയിലെ തീയ്യ തറവാട്ടുകാരെയും ഏറെ വിഷമിപ്പിച്ചയാളായിരുന്നു. തീയ്യ തറവാട്ടിലെ സുന്ദരിയായ കന്യകയെ ആലി വലയില്‍ വീഴ്ത്താന്‍ ശ്രമിച്ചതിനെ തുടര്‍ന്ന്‍ തറവാട്ട് കാരണവര്‍ കുലപരദേവതയായ പാടാര്‍ കുളങ്ങര ഭഗവതിയെ പ്രാര്‍ഥിക്കുകയും പാടാര്‍ കുളങ്ങര ഭഗവതി ഈ ദൌത്യം പുതിയ ഭഗവതിയെ ഏല്‍പ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തുവത്രേ. സുന്ദരിയായി വേഷം മാറിയ പുതിയ ഭഗവതി ആലിയ പാറക്കുളത്തില്‍ ഒന്നിച്ചു കുളിക്കാന്‍ ക്ഷണിക്കുകയും നീരാട്ടിനിടയില്‍ ആലിയുടെ അരയില്‍ കെട്ടിയ ഉറുക്കും തണ്ടും കൈക്കലാക്കുകയും തല്‍സ്വരൂപമെടുത്ത് ആലിയെ വകവരുത്തുകയും ചെയ്തുവത്രേ.
ആരിക്കാടിയിലെ ഛത്രംപള്ളത്തു വെച്ച് നടന്ന ഈ സംഭവത്തിനു ശേഷം നാട്ടില്‍ ദുര്‍നിമിത്തങ്ങള്‍ ഏറി വരികയും തുടര്‍ന്ന്‍ നടത്തിയ പ്രശ്ന വിധി പ്രകാരം ദൈവക്കരുവായ ആലിക്ക് കെട്ടിക്കോലം കല്‍പ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തുവത്രേ.
ആലിയെ കൊന്നത് രക്തചാമുണ്ടി ആണെന്നൊരു പാഠഭേദവും നിലവിലുണ്ട്.
