KADANKOT MAKKAM / MAKKA POTHI കടാങ്കോട് മാക്കം (മാക്ക പോതി):
കുഞ്ഞിമംഗലം കടാങ്കോട്ട് നായര്‍ തറവാട്ടിലെ ഉണിച്ചെറിയയുടെ മകളാണ് കുഞ്ഞിമാക്കം. കോലത്തിരി രാജാവിന്റെ പട നായകരായ 12 സഹോദരന്മാര്‍ക്കിടയില്‍ ഏക പെണ്‍തരി. 12 ആണ്‍ മക്കള്‍ക്ക് ശേഷം ഒരു പാട് പ്രാര്‍ത്ഥനകളും വഴിപാടുകളും നടത്തി കിട്ടിയ അതീവ തേജസ്സോടു കൂടി ജനിച്ച മകളാണ് മാക്കം. 12 ആങ്ങിളമാരുടെ കണ്ണിലുണ്ണിയായി അവള്‍ വളര്‍ന്നു. മച്ചുനനായ കുട്ടി നമ്പറുമായുള്ള വിവാഹത്തില്‍ മാക്കത്തിന് ഇരട്ടക്കുട്ടികള്‍- ചാത്തുവും ചീരുവും. മരുമക്കത്തായ സമ്പ്രദായപ്രകാരം മാക്കത്തെ അവര്‍ തറവാട്ടില്‍ തന്നെ താമസിപ്പിക്കാന്‍ തീരുമാനിക്കുന്നു. എന്നാല്‍ ഇത് നാത്തൂന്‍മാര്‍ക്ക് ഇഷ്ടമാകുന്നില്ല. അവര്‍ പലപ്പോഴായി മാക്കത്തെ പല തരത്തില്‍ കുറ്റപ്പെടുത്തി പറഞ്ഞുവെങ്കിലും ആങ്ങിളമാര്‍ അതൊന്നും ചെവിക്കൊള്ളാന്‍ പോയില്ല. തങ്ങളുടെ ഭര്‍ത്താക്കന്മാര്‍ക്ക് മാക്കത്തോടുള്ള അമിത വത്സല്യത്തില്‍ അസൂയാലുക്കളായ നാത്തൂന്മാര് (സഹോദര ഭാര്യമാര്‍) മാക്കത്തെ ചതിയില്‍ പ്പെടുത്താന്‍ തീരുമാനിക്കുന്നു.
ആയിടക്കാണ് കോലത്തിരിയുടെ ആജ്ഞ പ്രകാരം ആങ്ങളമാര്‍ക്ക് പടക്ക് പോകേണ്ടി വന്നത്. ഈ തക്കം നോക്കി നാത്തൂന്മാര് കരുക്കള്‍ നീക്കി. എന്നും വീട്ടിലേക്ക് എണ്ണയുമായി വരുന്ന വാണിയനെയും മാക്കത്തെയും ചേര്‍ത്ത് അവര്‍ അപവാദ കഥകള്‍ പറഞ്ഞുണ്ടാക്കി. മാക്കത്തിന്റെ ആങ്ങിളമാര്‍ പോര് കഴിഞ്ഞു തിരിച്ചു വരുന്ന സമയവും വാണിയന്‍ എണ്ണയും കൊണ്ട് വന്ന സമയം ഒന്നായിരുന്നു. ആ തക്കം നോക്കി അവര്‍ മാറി നിന്നു. ആരും എണ്ണ വാങ്ങാന്‍ ഇല്ലാതെ വന്നപ്പോള്‍ ഋതുവായി മുറിക്കുള്ളില്‍ ഇരിക്കുന്ന മാക്കം വാണിയനോടു എണ്ണ അകത്ത് പടിഞ്ഞാറ്റയില്‍ വെച്ചോളാന്‍ പറഞ്ഞു. എണ്ണ അകത്തു വെച്ച് വാണിയന്‍ പുറത്ത് ഇറങ്ങുമ്പോഴേക്കും ഭര്‍ത്താക്കന്‍മാരെയും കൂട്ടി നാത്തൂന്മാര് അവിടെ എത്തിയിരുന്നു.
അങ്ങിനെ പടയ്ക്കുപോയി തിരിച്ചെത്തുന്ന ഭര്‍ത്താക്കന്മാരോട് മാക്കം പിഴച്ചതായി ആരോപണം ഉന്നയിക്കുകയാണ് നാത്തൂന്മാര്. അവരുടെ ദ്വയാര്‍ത്ഥത്തോട് കൂടിയുള്ള ചിരി ആങ്ങിള മാരുടെ ദ്വേഷ്യം പിടിപ്പിച്ചു. ഭാര്യയുടെ വാക്കില്‍ എല്ലാം മറന്നുപോയവര്‍ മാക്കത്തെ കൊല്ലാന്‍ തീരുമാനിക്കുന്നു. എന്നാല്‍ അതിനു കൂട്ടു നില്‍ക്കാന്‍ ഇളയ ആങ്ങിളയും ഭാര്യയും നില്‍ക്കാതെ വീട് വിട്ടിറങ്ങി പോവുന്നു. കോട്ടയം വിളക്കുകാണാനെന്നും പറഞ്ഞ് മാക്കത്തെയും മക്കളെയും കൂട്ടി 11 ആങ്ങളമാരും യാത്രയാകുന്നു. അവരുടെ ദുരുദ്ദേശം മാക്കത്തിന് മനസ്സിലായി കുളിച്ചു തന്റെ കുടുംബദേവതയായ വീര ചാമുണ്ടിയുടെ കൊട്ടിലകത്ത് കയറി വിളക്ക് വെച്ച് തന്റെ നിരപരാധിത്വം മാലോകര്‍ക്ക് കാട്ടിക്കൊടുക്കണം എന്ന് പ്രാര്‍ഥിച്ചു ആങ്ങിളമാരുടെ കൂടെ യാത്രയാകുന്ന മാക്കം വഴിയില്‍ മാടായിക്കവിലമ്മയെയും, കളരിവാതില്‍ക്കല്‍ ഭഗവതിയെയും, കടലായി കൃഷ്ണനെയും തൊഴുതു നടന്നു.
യാത്രയ്ക്കിടെ ദാഹിച്ചുവലഞ്ഞ മാക്കം മക്കളെയും കൂട്ടി ചാലയില്‍ പുതിയവീട്ടില്‍ കയറി. ഈ വീട്ടിലെ അമ്മയുടെ കൈയില്‍നിന്ന് പാല് വാങ്ങി കുടിച്ചാണ് മാക്കം യാത്രയാകുന്നത്. തേജസ്വിനിയായ മാക്കത്തെയും മക്കളെയും കണ്ട അവിടുത്തെ അമ്മ അവര്‍ക്ക് ദാഹം തീര്‍ക്കാന്‍ കിണ്ടിയില്‍ പാല് നല്‍കി. അവരോടുള്ള നന്ദി സൂചകമായി തന്റെ കഴുത്തിലും കാതിലുമുണ്ടായിരുന്ന ആഭരണങ്ങള്‍ ഊരി കിണ്ടിയില്‍ ഇട്ടുകൊടുത്തു. പിന്നീട് അവര്‍ നടന്നു മമ്പറം കടവ് കടന്നു. മമ്പറം കടന്നു അച്ചങ്കരപ്പള്ളിയില്‍ ഒരു പൊട്ടക്കിണറ്റിന്നടുത്ത് എത്തിയപ്പോള്‍ 'നട്ടുച്ചയ്ക്ക് നക്ഷത്രമുദിച്ചത് കണ്ടോ മാക്കേ?' എന്ന സഹോദരന്മാരുടെ ചോദ്യംകേട്ട് നോക്കിയ മാക്കത്തെയും രണ്ടുകുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളെയും ആങ്ങളമാര്‍ചുരികയൂരി കഴുത്തറത്ത് കിണറ്റില്‍ തള്ളി. സംഭവത്തിന് സാക്ഷിയായ ഒരു മാവിലനെയും കൊലക്കത്തിക്കിരയാക്കി. ഏറ്റവും ഇളയ ആങ്ങളയായ കുട്ടിരാമന്‍ മാത്രം ജ്യേഷ്ഠന്മാരുടെ ഈ ക്രൂരതയ്ക്ക് കൂട്ടുനിന്നില്ല.
സംഹാരരുദ്രയായ മാക്കത്തിന്റെ പ്രതികാരമാണ് പിന്നീട്. കുഞ്ഞിമംഗലത്തെ തറവാട് കത്തിച്ചു ചാമ്പലാക്കി. വീരചാമുണ്ടിയുടെ സാന്നിധ്യമുള്ള കൊട്ടിലകം മാത്രം കത്താതെ നിന്നു. കുട്ടിരാമനും ഭാര്യയും ഒഴികെയുള്ള ആങ്ങളമാരും അവരുടെ ഭാര്യമാരും ദുര്‍മരണം പൂകി. (സഹോദരന്മാര്‍ താമസിയാതെ തമ്മില്‍ കലഹിച്ചു തമ്മില്‍ തമ്മില്‍ തന്നത്താന്‍ മറന്നു വാള്‍ കൊണ്ട് കൊത്തി മരിച്ചു. കടാങ്കോട്ടെ വീട്ടില്‍ നാത്തൂന്മാര് ഏഷണി പറഞ്ഞു ഭ്രാന്തു വന്നു അവര്‍ തൂങ്ങി മരിച്ചു). മാക്കത്തിന്റെ നിരപരാധിത്വം മാലോകര്‍ക്ക് ബോധ്യമായി.
സംഹാരതാണ്ഡവത്തിനുശേഷം മാക്കം മക്കളുമായി ചാലയില്‍ പുതിയവീട്ടിലെ പടിഞ്ഞാറ്റയില്‍ ചെന്നിരുന്നു എന്നാണ് കഥ. ദൈവക്കരുവായി മാറി തന്റെ ചാരിത്ര ശുദ്ധി തെളിയിച്ച മാക്കത്തിനും മക്കള്‍ക്കും കൂടെ മരണമടഞ്ഞ മാവിലാനും താമസിയാതെ കോല രൂപം നല്‍കി കോലം കെട്ടി ആരാധിക്കാന്‍ ജനങ്ങള്‍ തീരുമാനിച്ചു. അങ്ങിനെ ചാരിത്ര ശുദ്ധി തെളിയിച്ച കടാങ്കോട്ട് മാക്കം മാലോകരുടെ ആരാധ്യ ദേവതകളില്‍ പ്രധാനിയായി മാറി.

Kunhimakam is the daughter of Unicheriya of the Kunhimangalam Katankot Nair clan. The only female among the 12 brothers who were the warriors of King Kolathiri. After 12 sons, Makam is a daughter who was born with great splendor after a lot of prayers and offerings. She grew up to be the apple of 12 angels' eyes. Machunanaya Kutti No. gets married with twins - Chathu and Cheeru. As per Murumakkataya system, they decide to keep Maka in the family home. But the Nathoons don't like it. They often blamed Mack in many ways, but the English did not listen to any of it. Jealous of their husbands' excessive affection for Maka, the nathoons (brother wives) decide to cheat on Maka.
That's where the turtles had to go by boat as per Kolathiri's orders. Seeing this, the Nathuns moved their arms. They told scandalous stories along with Vanian and Makkah who always brought oil to the house. The time when Makath's Angilamar returned after the war and the time when Vanian came with oil was the same. At that moment they stood aside. When no one came to buy the oil, Rituai asked Makam Vanian, who was sitting in the room, to put the oil inside in the west. By the time Vanian came out with the oil inside, the Nathuns had reached there with their husbands.
Nathoons are accusing husbands who return from military service of having gone wrong. Their mischievous laughter earned the Englishmen hatred. Forgetting everything at his wife's words, they decide to kill Mack. But the younger Angila and his wife leave the house without stopping to join him. The 11 people along with Makkah and their children set off saying that they are going to visit Kottayam. Makam realized their evil intention, took a bath, went inside the hut of his family deity, Vira Chamundi, lit a lamp and prayed to show his innocence to the Malokas.
Makam, who was thirsty during the journey, took his children and went to a new house in Chala. Makam travels by drinking milk from the mother of this house. Seeing Tejaswini Maka and her children, his mother gave them milk in a kindy to quench their thirst. As a token of gratitude to them, he took off the ornaments from his neck and ears and put them in the kindi. Later they walked and crossed Mambaram Quay. After passing through Mambaram and reaching a pota well in Achankarapalli, he said, 'Did you see the stars at midnight?' After listening to the brothers' question, Maka and the two children were thrown into the well by the neck. A bystander who witnessed the incident was also stabbed to death. Only Kuti Rama, the youngest tortoise, did not join in this cruelty of his elder brothers.
Later is the revenge of the killer Maka. Kunhimangalam's ancestral home was burnt and turned into a champal. Only the Kotilakam with Veerachamundi's presence remained unburnt. Except for Kutiraman and his wife, the other tigers and their wives died a miserable death. (The brothers soon quarreled with each other and forgot to give each other to each other and stabbed themselves with a sword. In the house of Katangote, the Nathuns became mad and hanged themselves). The Malokas were convinced of Maka's innocence.
The story goes that after Samharatandava, Makam went to the western side of Chala with his children. The people decided to worship Maka and Mavila who died with her children after turning into God's calf and showing her purity of character. Thus, Katankot Makam, who proved his purity of character, became the main deity of the Malokas.
