KANNIKKORUMAKAN / MANICHERI DAIVAM / VAIDYANATHAN / DHANWANTHARI DEVAN കന്നിക്കൊരു മകന്‍ തെയ്യം (മാനിച്ചേരി ദൈവം) അഥവാ വൈദ്യനാഥന്‍ (ധന്വന്തരി ദേവന്):
‘വൈദ്യനാഥനായ’ ‘ധന്വന്തരി ദേവനാണ്’ ‘കന്നിക്കൊരു മകന്‍’ എന്നും ‘മാനിച്ചേരി ദൈവമെന്നും’ അറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്. “തൊണ്ണൂറ്റാറ് മഹാവ്യാധിക്ക് നൂറ്റെട്ടൌഷധങ്ങളായും ധന്വന്തരിയായും ഞാന്‍ ഇടത്തും വലത്തും നിന്നോളാം’ എന്ന് തെയ്യം ഉരിയാടുമ്പോള്‍ ഭക്തന് ലഭിക്കുന്ന ആനന്ദം അനിര്‍വചനീയമാണ്‌.
അനന്തരാവകാശികള്‍ ഇല്ലാതിരുന്ന പുതുര്‍വാടി കോട്ടയിലെ കന്യകയായ സ്ത്രീയാണ് വാക്കത്തൂര്‍ അക്കം തമ്മശ്ശേരി. ആഭരണങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് വേണ്ടി കൊള്ളക്കാര്‍ തട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു പോയ ഇവര്‍ പരമേശ്വരന്റെ കൃപയാല്‍ രക്ഷപ്പെട്ട് കുടക് മലയില്‍ എത്തിച്ചേരുകയും ആരോരുമില്ലാതെ ഒറ്റയ്ക്ക് വസിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. ആ അമ്മയ്ക്ക് ഒരു പാടു പ്രാര്‍ത്ഥനയുടെയും വ്രതത്തിന്റെയും ഫലമായി പരമേശ്വരന്‍ കനിഞ്ഞു നല്‍കിയ പുത്രന് ആണ് കന്നിക്കൊരു മകന്‍. ഈ സ്ത്രീയില്‍ ജനിച്ച കുട്ടിക്ക് മാത്രമേ പിന്നീട് രാജവംശത്തിന്റെ അനന്തരാവകാശിയാവാന്‍ കഴിയൂ. എന്നാല്‍ ഇങ്ങിനെയൊരു സ്ത്രീ ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന കാര്യം പുതുര്‍വാടി കോട്ട മതിലകത്തെ രാജാവായ ആങ്ങളക്ക് അറിയില്ലായിരുന്നു.
തനിക്കൊരു ആണ്‍തുണയായി ഒരു പുത്രന് വേണമെന്ന് ആഗ്രഹം കൊണ്ട അക്കം പരമേശ്വരനെ തപസ്സു ചെയ്തു. അക്കത്തിന്റെ നാല്‍പ്പത് ദിവസത്തെ കഠിന വ്രതത്തിന്റെ ഫലമായി നാല്‍പ്പത്തിയൊന്നാം ദിവസം പരമേശ്വരന്‍ പ്രത്യക്ഷയായി കന്നിയായ സ്ത്രീക്ക് “ഈ കുളിയാല്‍ നിന്റെ കുളി നില്‍ക്കട്ടെ... ഈ കരുവോ ഒരു കരുവാകട്ടെ” എന്ന് അനുഗ്രഹം നല്‍കി. യോനിയില്‍ പിറന്നാല്‍ ദേവപുത്രന് യോനിദോഷം വരുമെന്ന് പറഞ്ഞ് ഗര്‍ഭത്തെ അവാഹിച്ചു കരിങ്കല്ലില്‍ സ്ഥാപിച്ചു. ശിലപൊട്ടി പിളര്‍ന്ന് പൊന്മകന്‍ ഉണ്ടായി. ജനന സമയത്ത് മാരി പെയ്യുകയും ഒറ്റ പന്നി ഒച്ചയിടുകയും ചെയ്തു. മാത്രമല്ല പുതുര്‍വാടി കോട്ടയില്‍ തൂക്കിയിട്ടിരുന്ന ഉടവാളും പരിചയയും തമ്മില്‍ യുദ്ധം ചെയ്തു. കുട്ടിക്ക് വക്കത്തൂര്‍ കേളു എന്ന് പേര് നല്‍കി. ജ്യോത്സ്യന്‍ വന്നു കളം വരച്ചു. രാശി ക്രമ പ്രകാരം ഈ നാട് വിട്ടു മലനാട്ടില്‍ ഒരു വാഴ്ച വാഴും ക്ഷത്രിയ രാജാവാകും എന്ന് ജ്യോത്സ്യന്‍ വന്നു കളം വരച്ചു പറഞ്ഞു. (മക്കളില്ലാതെ ദുഖിച്ചു കഴിഞ്ഞ കന്യാരമ്മയ്ക്ക് ദൈവാധീനത്താല്‍ ലഭിച്ച സന്താനമാണ് കന്നിക്കൊരു മകന്‍ എന്നും വണ്ണാന്‍ സമുദായക്കാരാണ് ഈ തെയ്യത്തെ കെട്ടിയാടുന്നതെന്നും ഈ തെയ്യത്തെ കമ്മാള വിഭാഗക്കാര്‍ പ്രധാന ആരാധനാമൂര്‍ത്തിയായി കണക്കാക്കുന്നു എന്നും വേറൊരു ഭാഷ്യം ഉണ്ട്.)
കേളു ചെറുപ്പത്തിലെ തന്നെ എല്ലാ വിദ്യകളും കരസ്ഥമാക്കി. വൈദ്യത്തില്‍ പ്രശസ്തനായി കണ്ണിലും കര്‍ണ്ണത്തിലുമുള്ള ഘോരമായ വ്യാധിയൊഴിപ്പവന്‍ എന്ന പേരു ലഭിച്ചു. അമ്മയോട് എന്റെ അച്ഛനാരെന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. അമ്മ പുത്രന് ആങ്ങളക്ക് താന്‍ നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടതടക്കമുള്ള കഥകള്‍ പറഞ്ഞു കൊടുത്തു. കേളു വീരപുതുചരം കളരിയില്‍ ചേര്‍ന്ന് വിദ്യകളെല്ലാം പഠിച്ചു പന്ത്രണ്ടാം വയസ്സില്‍ ആചാരം വാങ്ങി ചെകവനായി. അമ്മയോട് അനുഗ്രഹം വാങ്ങി നേരമ്മാവനെ കാണാന്‍ പുതുര്‍വാടി കോട്ടയിലേക്ക് പോകുമ്പോള്‍ തന്റെ പൊന്നാങ്ങിള സമ്മാനിച്ച ആയിരത്തെട്ടു രത്നങ്ങള്‍ പതിച്ച പന്നിമുക്കം പവിഴ മാല പുത്രന്റെ കയ്യില്‍ അണിയിച്ചു കൊടുത്തു. എന്നാല്‍ പുതൂര്‍വാടി കോട്ടയില്‍ എത്തിയ കേളു ആളറിയാതെ അമ്മാവനുമായി യുദ്ധം ചെയ്യേണ്ടി വരികയും അമ്മാവന്‍ തോല്‍വി സമ്മതിച്ചപ്പോള്‍ താന്‍ അക്കത്തിന്റെ പുത്രനാണെന്ന് വെളിപ്പെടുത്തുകയും മാല കാണിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. മാല കണ്ടു തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞ മരുമകനെ പുതുര്‍വാടി കോട്ട രാജാവായി വാഴിച്ചു.
പിന്നീട് സുഹൃത്തായ ശാസ്താവോടും കൂടി ശിഷ്ട ജന പരിപാലനത്തിനു പുറപ്പെട്ട ദേവനെ ത്രിമൂര്‍ത്തികള്‍ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കുകയും തങ്ങളുടെ കൂടി ശക്തി നല്‍കുകയും ചെയ്തുവത്രേ. വളരെ വര്‍ഷങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് ശേഷം വയനാട്ടില്‍ പോയി തിരിച്ചു വരുന്ന കൂട്ടുകാരായ ഇടവലത്ത്പാക്കം, മൂവക്കാട്ട്, മാനിച്ചേരി എന്നീ തറവാട്ടുകളിലെ കാരണവന്‍മാര്‍ക്ക് ദേവന്റെ ശക്തി ചൈതന്യം കുടികൊള്ളുന്ന രത്നം കളഞ്ഞു കിട്ടി. മാനിച്ചേരി കൊട്ടിലകത്തെ കുറി തട്ടില്‍ വച്ച രത്നം തുള്ളിക്കളിച്ചുവെന്നും അടുത്തുള്ള പാലമരത്തില്‍ പോയി ഇരുന്നുവെന്നും പേടിച്ചു വിറച്ച മാനിച്ചേരി കാരണവര്‍ ജ്യോത്സനെ വിളിച്ചു കാരണം അന്വേഷിച്ചപ്പോള്‍ ദേവന്റെ ചൈതന്യമാണ്‌ അതിനു കാരണമെന്ന് അറിയുകയും ചെയ്തു. നരിക്കോട് ഈറ്റിശ്ശേരി ഇല്ലം വകയായിരുന്ന രത്നം ഇരുന്ന സ്ഥലത്ത് ക്ഷേത്രം പണിയാന്‍ തീരുമാനിക്കുകയും അവിടെ പൂജയും വെള്ളാട്ടവും തണ്ണിനമൃതും കൊടുത്തു പൂജിച്ചുവെന്നും ഐതിഹ്യം.
“കീര്‍ത്തിയെഴും കന്നികുന്നില്‍ നിന്നും ദൈവമൊരുനാള്‍
സംഹാര മൂര്‍ത്തിയായ ശാസ്താവോടുടനെ ശക്തിയെറും വൈഷ്ണവത്തെ
ഗ്രഹിച്ചൂ നീ വിരലില്‍ കാമ കാലാത്മജാ കന്നിക്കൊരു മകാ കൈതൊഴുന്നേന്‍”
വൈദ്യനാഥ സങ്കല്‍പ്പത്തില്‍ ആണ് ദേവന് ഇവിടെ കുടിയിരിക്കുന്നതത്രേ. ആശാരി കുറ്റിയിടാതെ നിര്‍മ്മിച്ച ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തില്‍ രത്നം നാല് മൂലയില്‍ പോയി നിന്നതിന്‍ പ്രകാരമാണ് ക്ഷേത്രം നിര്‍മ്മിച്ചതെന്നു പറയപ്പെടുന്നു. അസുഖങ്ങള്‍ ഭേദമാക്കുന്നതില്‍ ഈ ദേവന് പേര് കേട്ടവനാണ്.
“ ആദിവയത്തൂരും, അക്ലിയത്തും, ക്ലാവൂരും കൊണ്ട് ചെന്നാ തീരാത്ത
മഹാവ്യാധി മാനിച്ചേരി തട്ടിനകത്തൂടെ ഞാന്‍ ഒഴിവാക്കും പൈതങ്ങളെ”
എന്ന തെയ്യത്തിന്റെ വാമൊഴി ഇത് സാക്ഷ്യപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു.

Dhanvanthari Deva, the 'Physician', is known as 'Kannikoru Son' and 'Manicheri Deva'. The joy that a devotee gets when he chants, "I am from you on the left and on the right as a hundred and one hundred remedies for ninety-six mahavyadhis and as a blessing."
Vakkathur Akkam Thammassery is the virgin woman of Puthurwadi Fort who had no heirs. They were abducted by robbers for their jewels and escaped by the grace of the Lord and reached the Kotak mountain and lived alone without anyone. A son for a maiden is a son given to that mother as a result of a lot of prayer and fasting. Only the child born to this woman can later become the heir to the dynasty. But King Amala of Puthurwadi Fort Mitilakam did not know that such a woman was alive.
Akkam did penance to Lord Parameswara, desiring to have a son as a male helper. As a result of Akkam's forty-day fast, Lord Parameswara appeared on the forty-first day and blessed the virgin woman with the blessing, "May your bath be stopped by this bath... Many years later, the Karanavans of the families of Edavalathpakmak, Moovakkat and Manicherry, who were returning from Wayanad, were able to steal the gem in which the deity's Shakti Chaitanya resides. Manicheri Karanwar, who was scared that the gem that Manicheri had placed on the roof of the Kotilakam had dropped and went and sat on a nearby bridge tree, called the astrologer and inquired about the reason and found out that it was the spirit of the deity. Legend has it that Narikode decided to build a temple at the place where the gem used to belong to Eatissery Illam and worshiped there by offering puja, vellattam and tanninamrit.
