മംഗലാപുരത്തു നിന്നും തുളുനാടിന്‍റെ പാതിയും പിന്നിട്ട് ചാമുണ്ഡി ദേവി അള്ളട ദേശത്തെത്തിയ നേരത്ത് മുട്ടോളം ചേറ്റില്‍ നിലയുറച്ചുപോയി. അതോടെ നാട്ടില്‍ അനര്‍ത്ഥങ്ങളും കണ്ടുതുടങ്ങി. ഒടുവില്‍ ദേശവാസികള്‍ വിവരമറിയച്ചതിനെ തുടര്‍ന്ന് കാരിപ്പുലയന്‍ സ്ഥലത്തെത്തി. മുട്ടോളം ചേറ്റില്‍ നിലയുറച്ചുപോയ ചാമുണ്ഡിയെ കണ്ടു പുലയൻ. ചാമുണ്ഡിയെ ഇവിടെ കുടിയിരുത്തി. അങ്ങനെ കാര്‍ത്തികയില്‍ നിലയുറപ്പിച്ച ചാമുണ്ഡി കാര്‍ത്തിക ചാമുണ്ഡിയായി.
പുലയ സമുദായക്കാർ കെട്ടിയാടുന്ന കാർത്തിക ചാമുണ്ടി, തെയ്യയത്ത് കാരി, ഗുളികൻ എന്നീ തെയ്യങ്ങൾ കടത്ത് വഞ്ചിയിലൂടെ അക്കരെയുള്ള കാലിച്ചാൻ കാവ് ദേവസ്ഥാനത്തേക്ക് എഴുന്നള്ളുന്നത് കൗതുകകരമായ കാഴ്ചയാണ്. അപ്പോഴേക്കും അക്കരെയുള്ള കാലിച്ചാൻ കാവിൽ കാലിച്ചാൻ ദൈവം ഉറഞ്ഞാടി തെയ്യങ്ങളെ വരവേൽക്കാൻ കാത്തു നിൽക്കുന്നുണ്ടായിരിക്കും. കാവിലെത്തിയ തെയ്യങ്ങൾ കാലിച്ചാനുമായി സംഭാഷണത്തിലേർപ്പെടുകയും മഞ്ഞൾക്കുറി നൽകി ഭക്തരെ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും. തുടർന്ന് സമീപ പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലെ ചില വീടുകളും സന്ദര്ശിച്ച് അനുഗ്രഹം നൽകിയ ശേഷമേ തെയ്യങ്ങൾ തിരിച്ചു കാവിലേക്കു പുറപ്പെടുകയുള്ളൂ.
വിളവെടുപ്പ് കഴിഞ്ഞാൽ തുലാമാസത്തിലെ പത്താമുദയം വരെ പുന്നെല്ല് പുറത്തെടുക്കുമായിരുന്നില്ല. കാർത്തികയിൽ കെട്ടിയാടുന്ന തെയ്യങ്ങൾ പത്തായപ്പുര മുറ്റത്തെത്തും. അവിടെ നിലവിളക്ക് കത്തിച്ചു വച്ച് മുറത്തിൽ പുന്നെല്ല് വച്ചിരിക്കും. ചാമുണ്ഡി കയ്യിലെ ആയുധം കൊണ്ട് മൂന്നു തവണ നെല്ല് കോരിച്ചൊരിഞ്ഞ് " നട്ടുനനച്ചേടത്തും കരിച്ചു വാളിയേടത്തും പത്തിന്നു പതിനാറായി പൊലിപ്പിച്ചു തന്നോളാമെന്നു" അനുഗ്രഹിച്ച് നെല്ലു പുറത്തെടുക്കാനുള്ള അനുമതി നൽകും.
പതിയിലെ മരത്തിനു കീഴെ അരിയിടുന്ന കല്ലുണ്ട്. തെയ്യങ്ങളെല്ലാം ആ കല്ലിൽ അരിയിട്ടു വന്ദിക്കും. പിന്നാലെ പതിയിലെ തെയ്യങ്ങൾ തോണിയിൽ പുഴ കടക്കും. ഊരുകാവല്‍ക്കരനായ മറ്റൊരു കാലിച്ചാന്‍റെ കാവ് അക്കരെയുണ്ട്. വണ്ണാൻ സമുദായക്കാർ തെയ്യത്തെ കെട്ടിയാടുന്ന കാവാണിത്. ദേശത്തെ വളര്‍ത്തു മൃഗങ്ങളുടെ സംരക്ഷകനാണ് കാലിച്ചേകവന്‍ തെയ്യം. അദ്ദേഹത്തെ കാണാനാണ് ഈ യാത്ര. പുഴ കടന്നു വരുന്ന തെയ്യങ്ങളെ കാലിച്ചാൻ തെയ്യം സ്വീകരിക്കും. കാര്‍ഷിക സമൃദ്ധിയുടെ ഓര്‍മ്മകള്‍ പങ്കുവെക്കും. ഒരുമിച്ച് ദേശസഞ്ചാരം നടത്തും. പിന്നെ ചാമുണ്ഡിയും സംഘവും കാര്‍ത്തികയിലെ പതിയിലേക്കും കാലിച്ചാൻ തന്‍റെ കാവിലേക്കും മടങ്ങും.
കാസര്‍കോട് ജില്ലയിലെ കാഞ്ഞങ്ങാട്ടെ അരയി ഗ്രാമത്തിലാണ് തെയ്യങ്ങള്‍ മറ്റൊരു തെയ്യത്തെ കാണാൻ കടത്തുതോണിയില്‍ പുഴ കടന്നെത്തുന്ന മനോഹരമായ കാഴ്‍ച. അരിവിതച്ച് അരയിയെ സമൃദ്ധമാക്കിയ കാര്‍ത്തിക ചാമുണ്ഡിയാണ് കൂട്ടുകാരൊടൊപ്പം അരയിപ്പുഴ കടന്ന് മറ്റൊരു കൂട്ടുകാരനായ കാലിച്ചേകവനെ തേടിയെത്തുന്നത്. കാര്‍ത്തികക്കാവില്‍ നിന്നും അരയി ഗ്രാമത്തിലെ കൃഷിയിടങ്ങള്‍ നോക്കിക്കാണാനാണ് കാര്‍ത്തിക ചാമുണ്ഡിയും കാലിച്ചാന്‍ തെയ്യവും ഒപ്പം ഗുളികനും തോണിയില്‍ പുഴ കടക്കുന്നത്.
വയലുകളുടേയും കൃഷിയുടേയും സംരക്ഷകയാണ്‌ കാർത്തിക ചാമുണ്ഡിയും തേയ്യത്തുകാരിയുമെന്നാണ്‌ വിശ്വാസം. ഇവർക്കൊപ്പം ഗുളികൻ തെയ്യവും കൂടെ ചേർന്നാണ്‌ തോണിയിൽ കാലിച്ചേകവനെ കാണാനെത്തുന്നത്‌. വളർത്തുമൃഗങ്ങളുടെ സംരക്ഷകനാണ് കാലിച്ചേകവൻ തെയ്യം.
ഈശ്വരസങ്കൽപ്പത്തെ പ്രകൃതിയുമായി ചേർത്തുകാണുന്നതാണ്‌ ചാമുണ്ഡി-കാലിച്ചേകവൻ കൂടിക്കാഴ്ചയുടെ ആധാരം. കന്നുകാലികളുടെ സഹായമില്ലാതെ കൃഷിയിറക്കാൻ കഴിയാതിരുന്ന കാലത്തെ ഓർമ്മപ്പെടുത്തൽ കൂടിയാണ്‌ തെയ്യങ്ങളുടെ കണ്ടുമുട്ടൽ.

It is a fascinating sight to see the Pulaya community carrying the theyas Karthika Chamundi, Theiyat Kari and Gulikan to the Kalichan Kav Devasthanam on the other side. By that time, God will be waiting to welcome them in the foothills on the other side. Theyams who arrived at Kavi would engage in conversation with Kalichan and bless the devotees with turmeric. Then, after visiting some houses in the nearby areas and offering blessings, the Theiyas return to Kav.
After the harvest, the cob was not taken out until the tenth day of the month of Libra. The Theyas who are tied to Kartika will reach Patthayapura yard. A candle is lit there and a tooth is placed in the room. Chamundi will dig the rice three times with the weapon in his hand and give permission to take out the rice after blessing him that he will burn it to sixteen in ten to sixteen.
Under the tree in Pati, there is a stone for planting rice. All the Theiyas will salute that stone. After that, the Theiyas of Pati will cross the river in a canoe. On the other side is another Kalichanre Kav who is Urukavalkaran. This is the caw where the Vannan community people tie the Theiya. Kalichekavan Theyam is the protector of the domestic animals of the land. This trip is to see him. The Theiyam will accept the Theiyams who come across the river to trample them. Memories of agricultural prosperity will be shared. Will travel together. Then Chamundi and his gang will return to the camp at Kartika and to his homestead.
Kanhangate Arai village of Kasaragod district has a beautiful sight of Theiyas crossing the river in a boat to meet another Theiya. Kartika Chamundi, who made Arai rich by sowing paddy, crossed the Araipuzha with his friends to find another friend, Kalichekavan. Karthika Chamundi, Kalichan Theiyam and Gullikan cross the river in a canoe to look at the farmlands of Arai village from Karthikakav.
Kartika Chamundi is also believed to be the protector of fields and agriculture. Along with them, Gulikan Theiyam comes to meet Kalichekavan in a boat. Kalichekavan Theiyam is the protector of domestic animals.
The basis of the Chamundi-Kalichekavan meeting is to combine the concept of God with nature. The meeting of the Theiyas is also a reminder of the times when farming could not be done without the help of cattle.
