മണിക്കുട്ടി ശാസ്തപ്പന് തെയ്യം.
പൊന്ന്യം പുതുക്കുടി തറവാട് ശ്രീ കൂര്മ്പ ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്ര അരൂഡ ഗുരുസ്ഥാനം.
ഉത്തരകേരളത്തിൽ കെട്ടിയാടുന്ന ഒരു തെയ്യമാണ്‌ കുട്ടിച്ചാത്തൻ തെയ്യം അഥവാ കുട്ടിശാസ്തൻ തെയ്യം. പതിനെട്ടു ബ്രാഹ്മണ കുടുംബക്കാർ ആരാധിച്ചു പോരുന്ന മന്ത്രമൂർത്തിയാണ്‌ കുട്ടിച്ചാത്തൻ. മാന്ത്രികത്വമുള്ള കുട്ടിച്ചാത്തന്മാരിൽ പ്രാധാന്യമുള്ളവ കരിങ്കുട്ടി, പൂക്കുട്ടി, തീക്കുട്ടി, പറക്കുട്ടി, ഉച്ചക്കുട്ടി എന്നീ കുട്ടിച്ചാത്തന്മാരാണ്‌. ബ്രാഹ്മണേതര കുടുംബങ്ങളും ഈ തെയ്യങ്ങളെ ആരാധിച്ചു വരുന്നുണ്ട്. കണ്ണൂർ ജില്ലയിലെ പയ്യന്നൂരിനടുത്തുള്ള ഒരു മന്ത്രതന്ത്ര ബ്രാഹ്മണകുടുംബമാണ്‌ കാളകാട്ട് ഇല്ലം. കാളകാട്ട് തന്ത്രിയുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട തെയ്യമാണ്‌ കുട്ടിച്ചാത്തൻ. ഈ തെയ്യത്തെ കാളകാട്ട് കുട്ടിച്ചാത്തൻ എന്നും വിളിക്കാറുണ്ട്. വൈഷ്ണവാംശം ഉള്ള ഒരു തെയ്യമാണ്‌ കുട്ടിച്ചാത്തൻ.
ഐതിഹ്യം
ശിവനും പാർവ്വതിയും വള്ളുവനും വള്ളുവത്തിയുമായി വേഷം മാറിയപ്പോൾ അവർക്കുണ്ടായ പുത്രനാണ്‌ കുട്ടിച്ചാത്തൻ. മക്കളില്ലാത്ത കാളകാട്ടില്ലത്തെ നമ്പൂതിരിക്ക് ദൈവദത്തമായി ഈ കുട്ടിച്ചാത്തനെ മകനായി ലഭിച്ചു. അതോടെ കാളകാട്ടില്ലത്തെത്തിയ കുട്ടിച്ചാത്തൻ ബ്രാഹ്മണാചാരങ്ങൾക്ക് വിരുദ്ധമായ ശീലങ്ങൾ അനുവർത്തിക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങി. പഠിപ്പിൽ അസാമാന്യമായ ബുദ്ധി പ്രകടിപ്പിച്ചെങ്കിലും ഗുരുവിനെ അനുസരിക്കാൻ തയ്യാറായില്ല. തന്നെ അനുസരിക്കാതിരുന്ന ഗുരുനാഥൻ കുട്ടിച്ചാത്തനെ ശാസിക്കുകയും അടിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. ചാത്തൻ ഗുരുവിനെ വെട്ടിക്കൊന്ന് പഠിപ്പുമതിയാക്കി സ്ഥലം വിട്ടു.
തുടർന്ന് കാളകാട്ടില്ലത്തെ കന്നുകാലികളെ മേയ്ക്കുന്ന ചാത്തൻ ഒരു കാളയെ അറുത്ത് ചോരകുടിച്ചു. നമ്പൂതിരി കോപാകുലനായി ചാത്തനെ ശിക്ഷിച്ചു. ഇത് ഇല്ലത്തെ അമ്മയുടെ ഏഷണി നിമിത്തമാണെന്ന് വിചാരിച്ച ചാത്തൻ അമ്മയുടെ മാറിലേക്ക് കല്ലെറിഞ്ഞു. ഇതിൽ രോഷാകുലനായ നമ്പൂതിരി ചാത്തനെ വെട്ടിക്കൊന്നു. പക്ഷെ ചാത്തൻ ചത്തില്ല. വാശി കൂടിയ നമ്പൂതിരി ബ്രാഹ്മണരെ വരുത്തി ഹോമകുണ്ഡം തിർത്തു. വീണ്ടും ചാത്തനെ വെട്ടി 390 കഷ്ണങ്ങളാക്കി 21 ഹോമകുണ്ഡങ്ങളിൽ ഹോമിച്ചു. ഈ ഹോമകുണ്ഡങ്ങളിൽ നിന്ന് അനേകം ചാത്തന്മാരുണ്ടായി. അഗ്നിനൃത്തം വെച്ച് ചാത്തൻ കാളകാട്ടില്ലവും,സമീപത്തെ ബ്രാഹ്മണ ഇല്ലങ്ങളും ചുട്ടുകരിച്ചു.
ഉപദ്രവകാരിയായി നാട്ടിൽ നടന്ന ചാത്തനെ അടക്കാൻ ,കോലം കെട്ടി പൂജിക്കാൻ തീരുമാനിച്ചു. അങ്ങനെ കുട്ടിച്ചാത്തനെ തെയ്യമാക്കി ആരാധിച്ചു വരാൻ തുടങ്ങി.
മന്ഥര പർവതത്തിന്റെ ഉയർച്ച തുലനപ്പെടുത്തതിന് മഹാവിഷ്ണു ഗൃദ്ധ്രരാജനയി അവതരിച്ചുവെന്നും അതാണ് കുട്ടിച്ചാത്തനെന്നും തെയ്യക്കോലങ്ങൾ കെട്ടുന്ന മലയരുടെ വിശ്വാസം.

Kuttichathan Theiyam or Kuttishastan Theiyam is a Theiyam that is popular in North Kerala.
Kuttichathan is a Mantramurti worshiped by eighteen Brahmin families. Prominent among the magical elves are Karinkutti, Pookutty, Teikutty, Paikutty, and Uchkutty. Non-Brahmin families also worship these Theiyas. Kalakat Illam is a Mantra Tantra Brahmin family near Payyannur in Kannur district. Kuttichathan is the Theiyam associated with Kalakat tantri. This Theiya is also called Kalakat Kuttichathan. Kuttichathan is a Theiyam with Vaishnavism.
Legend
Kuttichatan is the son born to Shiva, Parvati and Valluva when they disguised themselves as Valluvathy. Namboothiri of Kalakattilla, who was childless, got this little boy as his son as a gift from God. With that, Kuttichathan, who came to Kalakattilla, started practicing habits that were against the Brahmin customs. Although he showed extraordinary intelligence in his studies, he refused to obey his guru. Gurunath reprimanded and beat Kuttichathan for disobeying him. Chatan cut the Guru down and left the place.
Then Chatan, who grazes the cattle without bulls, slaughtered a bull and drank its blood. Namboothiri got angry and punished Chatan. Thinking that this was because of Amma's insult, Chatan threw a stone at Amma's breast. Enraged by this, Namboothiri hacked Chatan to death. But Chatan did not die. Namboothiri brought the Brahmins and cleaned the Homakunda. Again the chatan was cut into 390 pieces and cremated in 21 homa kundas. From these homakundas many chatans were born. In a fire dance, Chatan burnt the Kalakattilam and the nearby Brahmin ilams.
It was decided to worship Chatan by tying a Kolam to kill him as a nuisance.
So they started worshiping the Kuttichathan.
It is the belief of the Malayans who weave the Theiyakolams that Lord Vishnu incarnated as Gridraraja to balance the height of the Manthara mountain and that is the Kuttichathan.
