ഉണ്ണങ്ങ:
മണിയറ ചന്തുവിന്റെ നേര്‍പെങ്ങളാണ് ഉണ്ണങ്ങ. വയലില്‍ വിതപ്പണിക്കിറങ്ങുന്ന ചന്തു തന്റെ കിളിവാലന്‍ വെറ്റിലതോട്ടം ആളും ആടും കേറാതെ പരിപാലിക്കാന്‍ തന്റെ ഉപാസനാമൂര്‍ത്തിയായ കുറത്തിയമ്മയെയായിരുന്നു ഏല്‍പ്പിച്ചിരുന്നത്‌.
ആങ്ങിളയില്ലാത്ത നേരത്ത് വയലില്‍ ഇറങ്ങിയ ഉണ്ണങ്ങ തളിര്‍ വെറ്റില നുള്ളി നന്നായി ഒന്ന് മുറുക്കി. മൂന്നേ മുക്കാല്‍ നാഴിക കൊണ്ട് അവള്‍ വയലില്‍ തന്നെ തെക്കു വടക്കായി വീണു മരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. നാട്ടുകാരും കൂട്ടുകാരും ചേര്‍ന്ന് ശവം ദഹിപ്പിച്ചു.
എന്ന്നാല്‍ കരയുന്ന ചന്തുവിന്റെ വിളികേട്ടു പാഞ്ഞോടി വന്ന കുറത്തിയമ്മ തന്റെ തിരുവായുധമായ വെള്ളിക്കത്തികൊണ്ട് കനല്‍ മാറ്റി. കനല്‍ നടുവില്‍ നിന്നും ഉണ്ണങ്ങ അപൂര്‍വ തേജസ്സോടെ ദൈവക്കോലമായി ഉയര്‍ന്നു വന്നു. വേലന്‍മാരാണ് ഈ തെയ്യം കെട്ടിയാടുന്നത്‌.
