ശ്രീ ശൂല കുമാരിയമ്മ, ശ്രീശൂല കുഠാരിയമ്മ – മരക്കലത്തമ്മ :

ശ്രീ ശൂലയില്ലത്തെ തിരുവടിത്തങ്ങള്‍ കപ്പലേറി കടല്‍ വാണിഭത്തിനു പോകവേ ഏഴു മാസം ഗര്‍ഭിണിയായ  ഭാര്യ തടസ്സം  നിന്നെങ്കിലും കൂട്ടാക്കാതെ യാത്ര  ചെയ്ത് തിരുവാലത്തൂര്‍ എത്തിയ തിരുവടിത്തങ്ങള്‍ അവിടെ ഒരു  പട്ടത്തിയെ  കല്യാണം  കഴിക്കുകയും അതില്‍ ഒരു പെണ്‍കുഞ്ഞ് ഉണ്ടാകുകയും ചെയ്തു. അവളാണ് ശൂല കുമാരിയെന്ന  ശ്രീശൂലകുഠാരിയമ്മ.

മാസങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് ശേഷം ഭാര്യയേയും മകളെയും കാണാതെ കപ്പലില്‍ മടങ്ങിയപ്പോള്‍ മകള്‍ ശൂലകുമാരിയും കപ്പലില്‍ കയറിക്കൂടി. ശ്രീ ശൂലയില്ലത്തെ തിരുവടിത്തങ്ങളുടെ മകന്‍ നിദ്രാഗോപാലന്‍ ഇത് സ്വപ്നത്തില്‍ കാണുകയും കന്യകയെ വിളക്കും  തളികയുമായി ചെന്ന് എതിരേല്‍ക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. കന്യകയെ ശൂലകുമാരിയമ്മ എന്ന പേരില്‍ പിന്നീട് ഇവര്‍ ആരാധിക്കപ്പെട്ടു  തുടങ്ങി.  ഇവര്‍ മരക്കലത്തമ്മ എന്നും അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു.  എന്നാല്‍ ഇതേ ദേവിയെ തന്നെ തിരുവാര്‍മ്മൊഴിയെന്നും, നരയൂധമാലയെന്നും  വിളിച്ചു വരുന്നു.

Sri Shula Kumariamma, Srishula Kuthariamma – Marakalathamma:

When the Thiruvadittams from Sri Shulailla embarked on a ship and went to sea trading, their seven-month pregnant wife stopped them, but they reached Tiruvalathur without being accompanied.

She is Shreeshulakuthariamma called Shula Kumari.

Months later, when he returned to the ship without seeing his wife and daughter, his daughter Shulakumari also boarded the ship.

Nidra Gopalan, the son of Thiruvaditham of Sri Shulailla, saw this in a dream and went to meet the maiden with a lamp and a plate. Later they started worshiping Kanyaka as Shulakumariamma. They are also known as Marakalatamma. But the same goddess is also called as Thiruvarmagoyan and Narayudhamala.
