മേച്ചേരി ചാമുണ്ഡി
കല്ലങ്കര ചാമുണ്ഡിയുടെ മകൾ എന്ന സങ്കൽപ്പത്തിലാണ് മേച്ചേരി ചാമുണ്ഡിയുടെ ഉത്ഭവം ശുംബ നിശംബമാറുമായി യുദ്ധം ചെയ്യുന്ന സമയത്ത് രക്ത ബീജാസുരൻ ദേവിയോട് ഏറ്റുമുട്ടി ഓരോ തുള്ളി ചോരയിൽ നിന്നും അനേകം അസുരൻമ്മാർ ഉണ്ടായി. ക്രോധവതി എന്ന അസുരന്റെ മകനാണ് രക്തബീജാസുരൻ, എന്തു ചെയ്യേണ്ടു അറിയാതെ ക്രോധം കൊണ്ട് ജ്വലിച്ച ദേവിയുടെ നെറ്റിത്തടത്തിൽ നിന്ന് നാവു പുറത്തേക്ക് നീട്ടികൊണ്ടു ഒരു കറുത്ത രൂപം പുറത്തേക്ക് വന്നു, രക്തബീജാസുരന്റെ ഒരു തുള്ളി രക്തം പോലും ഭൂമിയിൽ വീഴാതെ കുടിച്ചു വറ്റിച്ചു. രക്തം ഒഴുകിയത് മൂലം രക്ത ചാമുണ്ഡി എന്ന നാമം. ഈ രക്ത ചാമുണ്ഡിയുടെ ചെറിയ ഒരു രൂപ ഭാവമാണ് മേച്ചേരി ചാമുണ്ഡി
