മൂത്തഭഗവതി
രോഗങ്ങള്ക്ക് ദേവതാസങ്കല്പം ചെയ്യുന്ന പതിവ് പണ്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. തെയ്യാട്ടത്തില്‍ രോഗദേവതകളെ കാണാം. ഇവരില്‍ രോഗം വിതയ്ക്കുന്നവരെന്നും രോഗശമനം വരുത്തുന്നവരെന്നും രണ്ടുതരമുണ്ട്. ചീറുമ്പമാര്‍ (മൂത്തഭഗവതി, ഇളയഭഗവതി), ദണ്ഡദേവന്‍, കണ്ഠാകര്ണനന്‍, വസൂരിമാല എന്നിവ രോഗമുണ്ടാക്കുന്നവരാണ്. പുതിയഭഗവതി അത്തരം രോഗങ്ങളെ മാറ്റുന്ന ദേവതയാണെന്നാണ് സങ്കല്പം. തൂവക്കാളി, തൂവക്കാരന്‍, മാരി തുടങ്ങി വേറെയും രോഗദേവതകളുണ്ട്.
Mootha Bhagavathy
In the past, there was a practice of thinking of deities for diseases. Goddesses of disease can be seen in Theyatam. Among them there are two types, those who spread disease and those who cure disease. Chirumbas (Moothabhagavati, Ilayabhagavati), Dandadeva, Kandakarnan and Vasurimala are disease causing. New Bhagavathy is believed to be the goddess who cures such diseases. There are other disease deities like Tuvakali, Tuvakaran, Mari etc.
