PANIYAN THEYYAM പനിയൻ തെയ്യം:
മലയ സമുദായക്കാര്‍ കെട്ടിയാടുന്ന ശിവാംശഭൂതനായ ‘പനിയന് തെയ്യം’ സാധാരണയായി രാത്രിയിലാണ് കെട്ടിയാടാറുള്ളത്. തെയ്യങ്ങളിലെ കോമാളിയായാണ് ഈ തെയ്യം അറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്. രണ്ടു തെയ്യങ്ങള്‍ക്കിടയിലെ പുറപ്പാട് സമയത്തില്‍ ദൈര്‍ഘ്യം കൂടുതല്‍ ഉണ്ടെങ്കില്‍ ആള്‍ക്കാരെ രസിപ്പിക്കുക എന്ന ഉദ്ദേശത്തോടെ കെട്ടുന്ന തെയ്യമാണ്‌ ഇത്. നിര്‍ബന്ധമായും കെട്ടിയാടെണ്ട തെയ്യമല്ലെന്നു ചുരുക്കം. അതിനാല്‍ തന്നെ നേര്‍ച്ചകളും വഴിപാടുകളും ഒന്നും ഈ തെയ്യത്തിനില്ല.

പനിയന് വിദ്യ പറഞ്ഞു കൊടുക്കുന്ന ആളെന്ന നിലയിലാണ് ഗുരുക്കള്‍ വരുന്നത്. പനിയനേ നല്ല ശീലങ്ങള്‍ പഠിപ്പിക്കുക, അക്ഷരാഭ്യാസം ചെയ്യിക്കുക എന്നതൊക്കെയാണ് ഗുരുക്കളുടെ ചുമതല. എന്നാല്‍ ഗുരുക്കളുടെ ചോദ്യങ്ങള്‍ തെറ്റായി കെട്ടും വ്യാഖ്യാനിച്ചും പനിയന് ആളുകളെ ചിരിപ്പിക്കും. വാദ്യക്കാരനും പനിയനെ കെട്ടിയ കോലക്കാരനും നല്ല നര്‍മ ബോധമുള്ളവരാണെങ്കില്‍ നല്ലൊരു സമയം പോക്കാണ് ഈ തെയ്യം.
