PERUMPUZHAYACHAN പെരുമ്പുഴയച്ചൻ:
വള്ളുവ സമുദായക്കാരുടെ പ്രധാന ആരാധനാ ദേവതയാണ് വൈഷ്ണവാംശ മൂര്‍ത്തിയായ പെരുമ്പഴയച്ചന്‍ തെയ്യം. വടുവ (വള്ളുവ) തറവാട്ടിലെ ദമ്പതിമാരായ കങ്കാള ദേവനും വാരിക്കാ ദേവിയും കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളില്ലാതെ ശിവ ഭജനം വഴി (വിഷ്ണുവിനെ ഭജിച്ചത് വഴി എന്നും അഭിപ്രായമുണ്ട്) ഒരു വരം ലഭിച്ചുവെന്നും അത് പ്രകാരം അവര്‍ക്ക് ഒരു വീരസന്താനം ജനിക്കുമെന്നും സ്വദേശം വിട്ട് മലനാട്ടില്‍ പോയി ആ സന്താനം ഒരു പരദേവതയായി തീരുമെന്നായിരുന്നു വരം.
അത് പ്രകാരം പിറന്ന മകനെ അവര്‍ വിദ്യകള്‍ പഠിപ്പിച്ചു. ഒരിക്കല്‍ അമ്മാവനായ വടുവ ചെട്ടിയെ കണ്ടു കച്ചവടത്തിന് പോകാനുള്ള തന്റെ ആഗ്രഹം പ്രകടിപ്പിച്ച കുട്ടി അമ്മാവന്‍ നല്‍കിയ എരുതുകളുമായി ചങ്ങാതിമാരുടെ കൂടെ പല നാടുകള്‍ ചുറ്റി തിരുനെല്ലിയില്‍ എത്തുന്നു. ചരക്കുകള്‍ ഇറക്കി വെച്ച് വിശ്രമിച്ച ഇവര്‍ തായലെ പെരുമാള്‍ക്ക് വഴിച്ചുങ്കം കൊടുത്തുവെങ്കിലും മീത്തലെ പെരുമാള്‍ക്ക് ചുങ്കം നല്‍കാത്തതിനാല്‍ പെരുമാള്‍ ദ്വേഷ്യപ്പെടുകയും തന്റെ മാന്ത്രിക ശക്തി കൊണ്ട് എരുതുകളെയെല്ലാം കരിങ്കല്‍ കല്ലുകളായി മാറ്റുകയും ചെയ്തു. വെള്ളക്കാളകള്‍ വെങ്കല്ലായും, ചെമ്പന്‍ കാളകള്‍ ചെങ്കല്ലായും കരിംകാളകള്‍ കരിങ്കല്ലായും മാറി. ചരക്കെല്ലാം ചാര്യമായി. സംഘത്തിലെ ആറു പേരും ആപത്തില്‍ പെട്ടു. മാരിപ്പനിയും പെരുന്തലക്കുത്തും പിടിപ്പെട്ടു വായിലും മൂക്കിലും ചോര വാര്‍ന്നു. ദിക്കും ദേശവുമറിയാതെ പരസ്പ്പരംഅകന്ന് മരണമടഞ്ഞു. കല്ലറ കേറിയവന്‍ കല്ലറയച്ചനും, മണിക്കട കേറിയവന്‍ മണിക്കടയച്ചനും, പനക്കട തീണ്ടിയവന്‍ പനക്കടയച്ചനും, മലവഴിക്ക് പോയവന്‍ മലവഴിയച്ചനും, മര്‍മ്മ കാണ്ഡം പോയവന്‍ മര്‍മ്മൊഴിയച്ചനും ആയി മാറി. പെരിയ (വഴി) പിഴച്ച വടുവ ചെട്ടിയുടെ മരുമകന്‍ പെരുമ്പുഴയില്‍ (പെരുമ്പയില്‍) ഇറങ്ങി മരണമടഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങിനെ വള്ളുവന്‍മാര്‍ കണ്ടെത്തി ഒരു ദേവതയായി മാറി, പെരുമ്പുഴയച്ചന്‍ എന്നറിയപ്പെട്ടു.
“പെരിയ പിഴച്ചു പെരുമ്പുഴയില്‍ വീണോനല്ലോ പെരുമ്പുഴയച്ചന്‍”
എന്നാണു ഐതിഹ്യം.
എന്നാല്‍ ഇതില്‍ നിന്ന് അല്‍പ്പം വിത്യസ്തമായി ഒരു കഥയുണ്ട്. ചെറുപ്പത്തിലെ സകല വിദ്യകളും പഠിച്ചെടുത്ത ദേവന്‍ കച്ചവടക്കാരായ കാരണവര്‍ പോകുമ്പോള്‍ അവരുടെ കൂടെ കച്ചവടത്തിനു പോകാന്‍ വാശിപിടിക്കുകയും നിനക്ക് കച്ചവടം ചെയ്യാന്‍ അറിയില്ലെന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു അവര്‍ കൂട്ടാതിരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. എന്നാല്‍ അവര്‍ അറിയാതെ അവരെ പിന്തുടര്‍ന്ന ദേവന്‍ സ്വന്തമായി കച്ചവടം നടത്തി പ്രശസ്തനാവുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.
ആദ്യം കാലി കച്ചവടം ചെയ്ത ദേവന്‍ പിന്നീട് തുവര, കടല, വെല്ലം, കല്‍ക്കണ്ടം തുടങ്ങിയ പല വ്യജ്ഞനങ്ങള്‍ കച്ചവടം നടത്തി. തന്റെ മായയാല്‍ കടല ചെറുമണി ചരലായും, കല്‍ക്കണ്ടി വെങ്കല്ലായും മറിച്ചു മീത്തലെ വീട്ടില്‍ പെരുമാള്‍ക്ക് ചുങ്കം വീഴ്ത്താന്‍ പണം കയ്യിലുണ്ടായിരിക്കെ വെളുത്തരി കൊണ്ട് ചുങ്കം വീഴ്ത്തി മായ കാണിച്ചു. കച്ചവടം കഴിഞ്ഞു മടങ്ങുന്ന വഴി രാത്രി ഘോരമായ ചെന്നികുത്ത് വന്ന് കയ്യിലുണ്ടായിരുന്ന ചൂട്ടും നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടു. കണ്ണ് കാണാതായി വഴി പിഴച്ച് പെരുമ്പുഴയാറ്റില്‍ വീണു മരണപ്പെട്ടു. പിറ്റേന്ന് മീന്‍ പിടിക്കാന്‍ പോയ ഒരു വള്ളുവന് ദേവനെ വലയില്‍ കിട്ടി. അതോടു കൂടി വള്ളുവന്റെ വീട്ടില്‍ പല ദൃഷ്ടാന്തങ്ങളും കണ്ടു തുടങ്ങി. ജ്യോത്സരെ വരുത്തി നോക്കിയപ്പോള്‍ ഇതൊരു സാധാരണ മനുഷ്യനല്ലെന്നും കുലം കാക്കാന്‍ പോന്നൊരു ദൈവമാണ് എന്ന് കണ്ടു. അങ്ങിനെ വള്ളുവന്‍മാരുടെ കുലദൈവമായി മാറിയെന്നും അവര്‍ പയംകുറ്റി, ഇറച്ചി, മത്സ്യം എന്നിവ നൈവേദ്യമായി നല്‍കുകയും കോലസ്വരൂപം കെട്ടിയാടിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തുവെന്നാണ് മറ്റൊരു ഐതിഹ്യം.

വള്ളുവത്തറവാട്ടിലെ ദമ്പതിമാരായ കങ്കാള ദേവന്നും വാരിക്കാ ദേവിക്കും ശിവഭജനം ചെയ്തു കിട്ടിയ പൊന്മകനാണ് മരണാനന്തരം " പെരുമ്പുഴയച്ചൻ " തെയ്യമായി മാറിയത്.
ചെറുപ്പം മുതൽ തന്നെ സമർത്ഥനായിരുന്ന ബാലൻ യൗവ്വനത്തിൽ എത്തിയതോടെ വാണിഭക്കാരനാവാൻ കൊതിച്ചു. ചങ്ങാതിമാരോടൊപ്പം കച്ചവടത്തിനു പോകാൻ ആയിരം കാലികളെ തരണമെന്ന് അവൻ വടുവ ചെട്ടി നേരമ്മാവനോട് അപേക്ഷിച്ചു.അപകടം മണത്ത മാമൻ തടസ്സവാദങ്ങൾ നിരത്തി നോക്കിയെങ്കിലും അവന്റെ ശാഠ്യത്തിനു മുന്നിൽ കീഴടങ്ങേണ്ടി വന്നു. എണ്ണിക്കൊടുത്ത എരുതുകൾക്ക് മേലെ ചരക്കു കയറ്റി അവൻ ചങ്ങാതികളുടെ കൂടെ യാത്രയിറങ്ങി.
അമ്മാന്തിനാടും, മുത്തപ്പനാർ കാവും, ഓടച്ചുരവും, കുടകർ ദേശവും കടന്ന് ഒടുവിലവർ തിരുനെല്ലിയിലെത്തി. തായലെ പെരുമാൾക്ക് വഴിച്ചുങ്കം കൊടുത്തുവെങ്കിലും മീത്തലെ പെരുമാൾ ചുങ്കത്തെ ചൊല്ലി കലഹം തുടങ്ങി.
വെളുത്ത അരി ഉണ്ടായിട്ടും കറുത്ത അരി ചുങ്കം കൊടുത്തത് പെരുമാളെ ചൊടിപ്പിച്ചു. മഹാപരാക്രമശാലിയും മാന്ത്രികനുമായ മീത്തലെ പെരുമാൾ എരുതുകളെയെല്ലാം കല്ലാക്കി മറച്ചു.വെള്ളക്കാളകൾ വെങ്കല്ലായും, ചെമ്പൻ കാളകൾ ചെങ്കല്ലായും, കരിംകാളകൾ കരിങ്കല്ലായും , മാറി.ചരക്കെല്ലാം ചാരമായി.ആറു ചങ്ങാതിമാരും ആപത്തിൽ പെട്ടു .മാരിപ്പനിയും പെരുന്തല കുത്തും പിടിപെട്ട് വായിലും മൂക്കിലും ചോര വാർന്നു. അവർ അറുവരച്ഛൻ മാരായി. കല്ലറ കേറിയവൻ കല്ലറയച്ഛനും, മണിക്കട കേറിയവൻ മണിക്കടയച്ഛനും, പനക്കട തീണ്ടിയവൻ പനക്കടയച്ഛനും, മലവഴിക്കു പോയവർ മലവഴിയച്ഛനും, മർമ്മകാണ്ഡം പോയവൻ മർമ്മൊഴിയച്ഛനും ആയി മാറി. പെരിയ (പെരുവഴി) പിഴച്ച വടുവച്ചെട്ടിയുടെ മരുമകൻ പെരുമ്പുഴയച്ഛനായി ദൈവക്കരുവായി.പെരിയ പിഴച്ചെത്തി പെരുമ്പുഴ (പെരുമ്പ) യിൽ വള്ളുവന്മാർ കണ്ടെത്തിയ ദൈവമാണത്രെ പെരുമ്പുഴയച്ഛൻ.
ഓരോ വള്ളുവ കുടുംബവും പെരുമ്പുഴയച്ഛനെ കുലപൂർവ്വികനായും ധർമ്മദൈവമായും ആരാധിക്കുന്നു.
നമ്പ്യാർ സമുദായവും പെരുമ്പുഴയച്ഛനെ പയംകുറ്റി വെച്ച് ആരാധിക്കുന്നു. കള്ള്, കടല വറുത്തത്, തേങ്ങാ പൂള് എന്നിവ നിവേദ്യമായി സമർപ്പിക്കും. കാളയുടെ രൂപമാണ് നേർച്ചയായി സമർപ്പിക്കുന്നത്. പയ്യന്നൂർ പെരുമ്പ,ഇരിട്ടി ഓണപ്പറമ്പ് ,നുച്യാട്ട് എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിലെ പെരുമ്പുഴയച്ഛൻ കോട്ടങ്ങളും പ്രശസ്തമാണ്.
PERUMPUZHAYACHAN:
Perumbazhayachan Theiyam, a Vaishnavism idol, is the main deity of worship of the Valluva community.
Kankala Deva and Varika Devi, a couple of the Vaduva (Valluva) clan, were childless and received a boon through Shiva bhajan (it is also said that they worshiped Vishnu) and according to it, they would have a heroic child and leave their homeland to go to the mountains and that child would become a paradeity.
According to it, they taught the techniques to the son who was born. Once, the boy met his uncle, the widow Chetty, and expressed his desire to go to trade. Along with his friends, the boy arrived in Tirunelli with the bullocks given by his uncle. They unloaded the goods and rested and gave a toll to Thayale Perumal, but because he did not pay the toll, Perumal became enraged and turned all the oxen into granite stones with his magical power. White bulls became bronze, copper bulls red and black bulls black. All the goods are fine. Six members of the group were in danger. He caught typhus and dysentery and had bleeding from his mouth and nose. They died apart from each other without knowing the direction or country. He who carried the grave became Kallarayachachan, the one who carried the bells became the bell peddler, the one who ate the flowers became the palm peddler, the one who went to the mountain became the Malavhaichachan, and the one who went to the thorn tree became Marmogyayachan. Widow Chetty's son-in-law, who lost his way, landed in Perumpuzha (Perumba) and died. Thus Valluvan discovered and became a deity and became known as Perumpuzhayachan.
"Periya made a mistake and fell in Perumpuzha, son of Perumpuzha" That is the legend.
But there is a slightly different story from this. Devana, who had learned all the skills in his youth, insists to go with them when they go, who are traders, and they do not join, saying that you do not know how to trade. But unbeknownst to them, Devan followed them and became famous by running his own business.
Deva, who first traded in Kali, later traded in many types of vegetables such as Tuvara, Katala, Vellam and Kalkandam. Because of his vanity, he turned peanuts into gravel and limestone into bronze, and while he had the money in his hand to pay customs duties to Perumal at the house of Meethal, he showed his vanity by paying customs duties with white rice. On the way back after the trade, a terrible storm came at night and he lost the fire in his hand. Lost his eye and lost his way and fell into the Perumpuzha Yat and died. The next day, a Valluva who went fishing caught Deva in his net. Along with that, he started seeing many signs in Vallu's house. When they brought astrologers, they saw that this was not an ordinary man, but a god who had gone to protect the clan. Another legend says that he became the family deity of the Valluvas and they offered payamkutti, meat and fish as sacrifices and tied the Kolaswarupa.
