പേര് സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നത് പോലെ തന്നെ കാക്കി പാന്‍റ്സും ഷര്‍ട്ടും ബെല്‍റ്റും തൊപ്പിയും അണിഞ്ഞ് പൊലീസ് വേഷത്തിലാണ് തെയ്യമെത്തുന്നത്. പടന്നക്കാട് പാനൂര്‍ തറവാട്ടിലാണ് തെയ്യാട്ടത്തിന്‍റെ അപൂര്‍വ്വ കാഴ്ചയൊരുക്കുന്ന പൊലീസ് തെയ്യം കെട്ടിയാടാറ്.
മുഖത്ത് എഴുത്തുള്ളത് കൊണ്ട് മാത്രമാണ് തെയ്യക്കോലമാണെന്ന് മനസിലാവുക. ഒരു സിവില്‍ പൊലീസ് ഓഫീസറുടെ ജോലിയെല്ലാം ഈ തെയ്യം ചെയ്യും. ആളുകളുടെ തിരക്ക് നിയന്ത്രിക്കും, വിസില്‍ മുഴക്കി മുന്നിറയിപ്പ് നല്‍കും, നിയമ ലംഘകര്‍ക്ക് തമാശ രൂപത്തിലെങ്കിലും പിഴയിടും.
കരിഞ്ചാമുണ്ടിയുടെ അംഗരക്ഷകന്‍ പ്രധാന തെയ്യക്കോലമായ കരിഞ്ചാമുണ്ടിയോടൊപ്പമാണ് പൊലീസ് തെയ്യം ഇറങ്ങുന്നത്. കരിഞ്ചാമുണ്ടിയുടെ അംഗ രക്ഷകനെന്നാണ് ഐതീഹ്യം. ക്ഷേത്ര സ്ഥാനീയരില്‍ നിന്ന് അരിയും കുറിയും സ്വീകരിച്ച് ക്ഷേത്ര പ്രദക്ഷിണം നടത്തിയാണ് യൂണിഫോമില്‍ തെയ്യം അരങ്ങിലെത്തുക. മരത്തില്‍ തീര്‍ത്ത തോക്കാണ് തിരുവായുധമായി കൈയിലേന്തുന്നത്. വെള്ളി തലപ്പാളി അണിയുന്നത് തൊപ്പിക്ക് മുകളിലാണ്.
കരിഞ്ചാമുണ്ഡിയും പോലീസ് തെയ്യവും:
പഴയ കാലത്ത് ഒരിക്കൽ പാനൂക്ക് തായത്തു തറവാട്ടിലെ കാരി കാരണവർ എടച്ചേരി ആലിൽ നടക്കുന്ന കരിഞ്ചാമുണ്ഡി കളിയാട്ടം കാണാൻ എത്തിയിരുന്നു. തന്റെ തറവാട്ടിലും കരിഞ്ചാമുണ്ഡി തെയ്യം കെട്ടിയാടാൻ ആഗ്രഹമുള്ള വിവരം കാരണവർ തെയ്യത്തോട് പറഞ്ഞു. കരിഞ്ചാമുണ്ഡിയുടെ സമ്മതപ്രകാരം ദൈവശക്തിയെ ഒരു ചെമ്പുകുടത്തിലേക്ക് ആവാഹിച്ച് പാനൂക്ക് തായത്തുതറവാട്ടിലേക്ക് പോകാമെന്ന നിലയിലേക്ക് കാര്യങ്ങൾ വന്നു. സാമൂതിരി രാജാവിന്റെ ആ കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ കോലസ്വരൂപത്തെ നായന്മാരും അള്ളട സ്വരൂപത്തെ നായന്മാരും തമ്മിൽ യുദ്ധം നടന്നു വരികയായിരുന്നു. കാരണവർ വഴിമദ്ധ്യേ വെച്ച് യുദ്ധം നടക്കുന്നതു കാണുന്നു. യുദ്ധസമയത്ത് വെട്ടേറ്റ ഒരു പടയാളി വീണുപിടയുന്നത് കാരണവർ കാണാനിടവന്നു. കരിഞ്ചാമുണ്ഡിയെ ഉൾക്കൊള്ളുന്ന ചെമ്പുകുടം താഴെവെച്ച് കാരണവർ ആ പടവീരനെ മടിയിൽ കിടത്തി വെള്ളം നൽകി. വെള്ളം കഴിച്ച പടയാളി മരിച്ചു പോവുന്നു.
തറവാട്ടിലെത്തിയ കാരണവർ കരിഞ്ചാമുണ്ഡിയെ വീട്ടിൽ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചു. അപ്പോൾ മറ്റൊരു സാന്നിദ്ധ്യം കൂടെ തറവാട്ടിൽ ഉള്ളതായി കാരണവർക്കു ബോധ്യം വന്നു. പ്രശ്നവിധിയാൽ അത് വഴിയിൽ കിടന്നു മരിച്ച പടയാളിയുടേതാണെന്നു മനസ്സിലാവുന്നു. തന്റെ കൂടെ കരിഞ്ചാമുണ്ഡി ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതിനാൽ പടയാളിയെ കൂടി കരിഞ്ചാമുണ്ഡി കൂടെ കൂട്ടിയതാണത്രേ. അതിനുശേഷമാണ് തറവാട്ടിൽ പടവീരൻ എന്ന പൊലീസ് തെയ്യത്തെ കൂടി കെട്ടാനാരംഭിച്ചത്. അന്നത്തെ സൈനികനാണു കോലസ്വരൂപത്തിനധികാരിയെങ്കിലും വേഷവിധാനങ്ങളിൽ പൊലീസിന്റെ യൂണിഫോമിലാണിന്ന് തെയ്യത്തെ കാണാൻ സാധിക്കുന്നത്.
Police Theyyam
As the name suggests, Theiya wears khaki pants, shirt, belt and cap as a police officer. In Pannur Tharavat of Patannakkad, the police are making a rare sight of theyatta.
Understand that it is only because of the writing on the face that it is teakola. This theyam will do all the work of a civil police officer. Crowding will be controlled, whistle-blowing warnings will be issued, and violators will be fined, at least in a humorous way.
Karinchamundi's bodyguard comes with Karinchamundi, the main Theiyakolam, in police Theiyam. Legend has it that Anga is the savior of Karinchamundi. After receiving rice and curry from the temple officials, Theyam arrives at the arena in uniform. A wooden gun is carried as a weapon. A silver turban is worn over the cap.
Karinchamundi and Police Theiyam:
The 'Police Theyam' is based in Patannakkad Panuk Thayat Tharavat. In the past, Kari Karanavar of this family came to see Karinjamundi's play at Edacheri Al. Karanavar requested Karinjamundi to arrange the play of the goddess in his ancestral home as well.
On the way to Tharavat, Karana and Devi saw a battle going on between Nayas of Kola Swarupa and Nayas of Alladam Swarupa. Karanavara gave water to a policeman who was cut and fell on the ground. The policeman died soon after. On returning to the homestead, the people felt the presence of Karinjamundi and the police. Legend has it that after that, Karinchamundi and the police began to fight in the family home.
