PONNUAN THONDACHAN പൊന്ന്വന്‍ തൊണ്ടച്ചന്‍:
തന്റെ ഇഷ്ടദേവതായായ മഹാകാളിയുടെ സേവ കൊണ്ട് അനേകം അത്ഭുത കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ നിര്‍വഹിച്ച പൊന്ന്വന്‍ തൊണ്ടച്ചന്‍ എരമം നാട്ടിലെ മീത്തലെ വീട് തറവാട്ടിലാണ് ജനിച്ചത്‌. മന്ത്രതന്ത്രാദി ഗൂഡശാസ്ത്രങ്ങളില്‍ അപാരമായ അറിവ് നേടിയ ഈ പണ്ഡിതന്‍ അനീതിക്കെതിരെ ആരുടെ മുന്നിലും തുറന്നടിക്കുന്ന തന്റേടക്കാരനുമായിരുന്നു. ഒരിക്കല്‍ കാളകാടു നമ്പൂതിരിയുടെ താന്ത്രിക വിധിയെ ചോദ്യം ചെയ്തതോടെ മേലാളരുടെ കണ്ണിലെ കാരായി. ഒരിക്കല്‍ കാളകാടു നമ്പൂതിരി പൊന്ന്വനെ തന്റെ ഇല്ലത്തേക്ക് വിളിപ്പിച്ചു. വഴി നീളെ പരീക്ഷണങ്ങള്‍ ഒരുക്കിയായിരുന്നു ഈ ക്ഷണം. എന്നാല്‍ അതെല്ലാം മറികടന്നു വീട്ടിലെത്തിയ പൊന്ന്വനെ കാളകാട് അന്തിയാവോളം ചര്‍ച്ചയില്‍ പിടിച്ചിരുത്തി. സന്ധ്യക്ക് തിരിച്ച പൊന്ന്വനെ പയ്യന്‍ എന്നൊരാള്‍ വെടിവച്ചു കൊന്നു. അങ്ങിനെ പൊന്ന്വന്‍ പൊന്ന്വന്‍ തൊണ്ടച്ചന്‍ തെയ്യമായി മാറി.
കണ്ണൂർ ജില്ലയിലെ മാതമംഗലം മുച്ചിലോട്ടു കാവിൽ മാത്രം കാണുന്ന തെയ്യമാണിത്. രാത്രി പന്ത്രണ്ടു മാണിയോട് കൂടിയാണ് ഈ തെയ്യം ഇറങ്ങുക.

Ponavan Thondachan, who performed many miraculous deeds with the service of his favorite goddess Mahakali, was born in the house of Meethale in Eram Nadu.
This scholar who acquired immense knowledge in magic arts was an outspoken advocate against injustice. Once Kalakadu questioned Namboothiri's tantric judgment and became the target of the bosses. Once Kalakadu called Namboothiri Ponavan to his house. This invitation prepared experiments along the way. But Ponvan, who came home after overcoming all that, was held in discussion till the end by the bull forest. A guy called Payyan shot and killed Ponwan who returned to Sandhya. That's how Ponuvan Ponuvan became Thondachan Theiya.
This is the theyam found only in Matamangalam Muchilotu Kavi in Kannur district.
This Theyam will descend at twelve o'clock in the night.
