പുലിമറഞ്ഞ തൊണ്ടച്ചൻ അഥവാ കാരിഗുരിക്കള്‍
പുലയരുടെ പ്രധാന ആരാധാനാപാത്രമായ ഒരു തെയ്യമാണ്‌ പുലിമറഞ്ഞ തൊണ്ടച്ചന്‍ എന്ന കാരിഗുരിക്കള്‍ തെയ്യം. കുഞ്ഞിമംഗലത്ത് ചെണിച്ചേരി വീട്ടില്‍ കുഞ്ഞമ്പു നായരെന്ന ജന്മിക്ക് കൃഷി നടത്താന്‍ തിരുവര്‍ക്കാട്ട് കാവില്‍ നിന്നും കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു വന്ന അടിയാന്മാരായ വളളിക്കുടിച്ചിവിരുന്തിയ്ക്കും മണിയന്‍ കാഞ്ഞാനും കല്യാണം കഴിച്ചു അതിലുണ്ടായ സന്താനമാണ് കാരി. ചെമ്പിടാര്‍ കുരിക്കളുടെ കീഴില്‍ അക്ഷര വിദ്യ പഠിച്ച കാരിക്ക് പുലയനായതിന്റെ പേരില്‍ കളരി വിദ്യ പഠിക്കാന്‍ പറ്റാത്തതിനാല്‍ അതിനു വേണ്ടി പേരും വീട്ടും പേരും മാറ്റി പറയാന്‍ ചെണിച്ചേരി കുഞ്ഞമ്പു നായര്‍ സമ്മതിച്ചതിന്റെ ഫലമായി മാടായിക്കളരി, നെക്കണം കളരി തുടങ്ങി പതിനെട്ടു കളരികളില്‍ ചേര്‍ന്ന് വിദ്യ പഠിച്ചു. ഒപ്പം ചോതിയാന്‍ കളരിയില്‍ നിന്ന് ആള്‍മാറാട്ട വിദ്യയും പഠിച്ചു.
മാടായി കളരിയില്‍ നിന്ന് തിരിച്ചു വന്നതിനു ശേഷം കാരിക്ക് കാരി കുരിക്കള്‍ (ഗുരിക്കള്‍) സ്ഥാനം ലഭിച്ചു. മന്ത്രവാദക്കളരിയില്‍ മന്ത്രവാദം നടത്താനുള്ള അനുവാദവും ചെണിച്ചേരി കുഞ്ഞമ്പു നായര്‍ നല്‍കി. അള്ളടം നാട്ടിലെ (നീലേശ്വരം) തമ്പുരാന്റെ ഭ്രാന്ത് ചികിത്സിക്കാന്‍ ആറു തവണ വിളി വന്നിട്ടും കുഞ്ഞമ്പു നായര്‍ കാരിയെ പോകാന്‍ അനുവദിക്കാതെയിരുന്നതിന്റെ ഫലമായി ഏഴാം തവണ ചെമ്പോല പ്രമാണം വന്നു. കാരിയെ അയച്ചാല്‍ പകുതി സ്വത്ത് കൊടുക്കാമെന്ന് അതില്‍ എഴുതിയിരുന്നു. കാരി കുരിക്കള്‍ ശിഷ്യന്‍മാരുമായി ചെന്ന് ബാധയിളക്കി. കുരിക്കളുടെ കയ്യില്‍ നിന്ന് മദ്യം വാങ്ങിക്കുടിച്ചത് മറ്റുള്ളവര്‍ക്ക് ഇഷ്ടമായില്ല. ഭ്രാന്ത് മാറിയപ്പോള്‍ തമ്പുരാക്കന്മാരുടെ വിധവും മാറി. ചെമ്പോല പ്രകാരം സ്വത്ത് പകുതി തരാന്‍ അവര്‍ തയ്യാറായില്ല പകരം പുളിപ്പാലും നരി ജടയും കൊണ്ട് വന്നാല്‍ തരാമെന്നായി.
കാരികുരിക്കള്‍ക്ക് ആള്‍മാറാട്ട വിദ്യ അറിയാമെന്നതിനാല്‍ വീട്ടില്‍ പോയി എല്ലാവരോടും തന്റെ ഉദ്ദേശ്യം പറയുന്നു. രാത്രി താന്‍ പുലിവേഷം പൂണ്ടു വരുമ്പോള്‍ അരി കഴുകിയ വെള്ളം മുഖത്തോഴിക്കണമെന്നും പച്ചചാണകം കലക്കിയ വെള്ളത്തില്‍ ചൂല്‍ മുക്കി മുഖത്ത് അടിക്കണമെന്നും ഭാര്യയെ ചട്ടം കെട്ടി. കാട്ടില്‍ ചെന്ന് പുളിരൂപത്ത്തില്‍ പുളിപ്പാലും നരിച്ചടയും കൊണ്ട് കോവിലകത്ത് പടിക്കല്‍ വെച്ച് അതേ വേഷത്തില്‍ വീട്ടില്‍ രാത്രിയിലെത്തി. ഭാര്യ പുലി വേഷം കണ്ടു ഭയന്ന് വാതില്‍ തുറന്നില്ല. പറഞ്ഞതെല്ലാം അവര്‍ മറന്നും പോയി. പുലിയാകട്ടെ പുരതുള്ളി അകത്ത് കയറി അവളെ പിളര്‍ന്ന് തിന്നു. സ്വന്തം രൂപം തിരിചെടുക്കാനാവാതെ കാരി പുലിയായി അവിടെ നിന്നും മറഞ്ഞു. പുലി പാതാളത്തില്‍ ലയിച്ചു.
കുറച്ചു നാള്‍ കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോള്‍ അള്ളടം തമ്പുരാന് ബാധയിളകി. പുലി മറഞ്ഞ തൊണ്ടച്ചന്റെ കോപമാണ് കാരണമെന്ന് മനസ്സിലാക്കി ചെണിച്ചേരി കുഞ്ഞമ്പു നായര്‍ക്ക് സ്വത്തില്‍ പാതി നല്‍കി. കാരിയുടെ രൂപം സ്വര്‍ണ്ണം കൊണ്ട് ഉണ്ടാക്കി കാരി കുരിക്കളുടെ തെയ്യം കെട്ടിയാടിക്കാനും തുടങ്ങി.

PULIMARANJA THONDACHAN / KARI GURUKKAL
Karigurikal Theiyam called Pulimaranja Thondachan is a Theiyam which is the main shrine of Pulayars. Kari was married to Valalikkudichivirunthi and Maniyan Kanjan, slaves brought from Tiruvarkat Kav to farm by Kunjambu Nair at Chenicherry house in Kunhimangalam. Karik, who studied Akshara Vidya under the Chempitar Kuriks, could not learn Kalari Vidya due to being a Pulayan, and as a result of Chenicheri Kunjambu Nair agreeing to change his name and family for it, he studied Vidya in eighteen kalaris starting from Madaikalari, Nekanam Kalari. And Chothian learned impersonation from Kalari.
After returning from Madai Kalari, the Kari got the position of Kari Kurikal (Kurikal). Chenicherry Kunjampu Nair also gave permission to perform spells in Mantravadakalari. Chempola Pramana came for the seventh time as a result of Kunjambu Nair Kari not being allowed to go despite being called six times to cure the insanity of the lord of Alladam Nadu (Neeleswaram). It was written that half of the property would be given if Carrie was sent. Kari Kurikkal went with the disciples and caused the plague. Others did not like the fact that they bought alcohol from the hands of the sheep. As the madness changed, so did the manners of the lords. His wife saw the tiger costume and did not open the door because of fear. They forgot everything that was said. The tiger, on the other hand, sneaked in and ate her. Unable to regain her own form, Kari disappeared from there as a tiger. The tiger merged into the underworld.
After a few days, Lord Alladam became infected. Knowing that the reason was the anger of Thondachan, who had hidden the tiger, Chenicheri gave half of the property to Kunjambu Nair. Kari's form was made of gold and Kari began to tie the sheep's tails.
