തണ്ടാറച്ഛൻ തെയ്യം
ഒറവങ്കര ഭഗവതി ഭഗവതിയുടെ ഐതീഹ്യവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടതാണ് തണ്ടാറാച്ചൻ തെയ്യത്തിന്റെ ഐതീഹ്യവും.
മാതമംഗലം പാണപ്പുഴ പ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ കെട്ടിയാടുന്ന ഒരു തെയ്യമാണ് ഒറവങ്കര ഭഗവതി
വളരെക്കാലം മുന്‍പ് പാണപ്പുഴയിലെ ഭൂരിപക്ഷം ആൾക്കാരും തീയ്യ സമുദായക്കരായിരുന്നു. ഏതാണ്ട് മുന്നൂറു കൊല്ലങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് മുന്‍പ് (AD 700 കാലഘട്ടങ്ങളിൽ) മന്ത്രമൂർത്തികളുടെ ഉപാസകരും ജ്യോതിഷവും അധ്യാപനവും കുലത്തൊഴിലായായ ഒരു കുടുംബം ഇവിടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ജ്യോതിഷ, മാന്ത്രിക കാര്യങ്ങളില്‍ പ്രശസ്തനായ ഒരു ഗുരുക്കൾ ഈ കുടുംബത്തില്‍ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നുവെത്രെ. ഔപചാരിക വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം നിലവില്‍ ഇല്ലാതിരുന്ന അക്കാലത്തു അദ്ദേഹം കുട്ടികളെ എഴുത്തും വായനയും കൂടാതെ കളരിയും മന്ത്രവിദ്യകളും പഠിപ്പിക്കുമായിരുന്നു. ഇതിനായി വീടിനരികെ തന്നെ ഒരു കളരി സ്ഥാപിച്ചു അധ്യാപനം നടത്തിവന്നു. തീയ്യ സമുദായത്തിലെ നിരവധി പേര്‍ ഗുരുക്കൾക്ക് ശിഷ്യ ഗണങ്ങളായി. അക്കൂട്ടത്തിൽ വലിയവീട് എന്ന കുടുംബത്തിലെ അടിയാംകുളം തണ്ടാൻ എന്ന ആൾ ശിഷ്യരില്‍ പ്രമുഖനായിരുന്നു.
അക്കാലത്ത് പാണപ്പുഴ, ചിറക്കല്‍ തമ്പുരാന്റെ അധീനതയിലായിരുന്നു. പാണപ്പുഴ കളരിയെ കുറിച്ചു അറിഞ്ഞ ചിറക്കല്‍ തമ്പുരാന്‍ ഗുരുക്കളെ അങ്കത്തിന് വിളിച്ചു. തിരുവായ്കു എതിര്‍ വായില്ലാതിരുന്ന ആ കാലത്ത് വിളിച്ചാല്‍ പോകാതിരിക്കാനും പറ്റില്ല. ഗുരുക്കള്‍ വലിയവീടിലെ തന്റെ പ്രധാന ശിഷ്യനൊത്തു അങ്കത്തിന് പോകാനുറച്ചു. അങ്കത്തിന് തലേ ദിവസം ഗുരുവും ശിഷ്യനും കളരിയിലെ മന്ത്ര മൂർത്തികളെയും വലിയവീടിലെ കുലദൈവങ്ങളെയും തൊഴുതു ചിറക്കല്‍ കോവിലകത്തേക്ക് പുറപെട്ടു. വഴി മദ്ധ്യേ കടന്നപള്ളി വെള്ളാളം ശിവക്ഷേത്രത്തിലും തൊഴുതു, സന്ധ്യായപ്പോള്‍ വളപട്ടണത്ത് എത്തി. നേരം ഇരുട്ടിയപ്പോള്‍ അകലെ വെളിച്ചം കണ്ട ഒരു കുടിലിലേക്ക് അവര്‍ ചെന്നു. ഒരു വൃദ്ധയാണ് അവിടെ താമസിച്ചിരുന്നത്. വിവരങ്ങള്‍ ഒക്കെ പറഞ്ഞപ്പോള്‍ അന്ന് അവിടെ താമസിക്കുവാന്‍ അനുവദിച്ചു. പിറ്റേന്ന് രാവിലെ കോവിലകത്തേക്കു പുറപെടുമ്പോള്‍ തൊട്ടടുത്തുള്ള കളരി വാതുക്കല്‍ ക്ഷേത്രത്തില്‍ ചെന്നു ഭഗവതിയുടെ അനുഗ്രഹം വാങ്ങണമെന്ന് വൃദ്ധ പറഞ്ഞു. അത് അനുസരിച്ച് ഗുരുവും ശിഷ്യനും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെത്തി. ഭഗവതിയുടെ തെയ്യം പുറപെട്ട സമയമായിരുന്നു അത്. ഗുരു ശിഷ്യന്മാർ കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ ഭഗവതിയെ ധരിപ്പിച്ചു. അവരില്‍ പ്രസാദിച്ച ഭഗവതി ഒരു നന്ദകവാള്‍ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചു നല്‍കി. ആ വാളുമായി ഗുരുവും ശിഷ്യനും കോവിലകത്തു എത്തി. തമ്പുരാന്റെ പടയാളികള്‍ അങ്കത്തിനു ഒരുങ്ങി നില്‍കുന്ന കാഴ്ചയാണവര്‍ കണ്ടത്. എന്നാല്‍ ഗുരുക്കളുടെ കയ്യിലെ നന്ദക വാളില്‍ നിന്നും പുറപെട്ട അത്ഭുത രശ്മികള്‍ കൊണ്ട് പടയാളികള്‍ ബോധമറ്റു വീഴാന്‍ തുടങ്ങി. ഈ കാഴ്ച കണ്ടു ഭയന്ന രാജാവ് അവരെ സ്വീകരിച്ചിരുത്തി ആചാര്യ സ്ഥാനം നല്‍കി. ഗുരുവിനു ഒരു ചൂരലും ശിഷ്യന് തണ്ടയാന്‍ എന്ന പദവിയും നല്‍കി ഒരു ഓലകുടയും സമ്മാനിചൂ. രണ്ടുപേരും സസന്തോഷം പാണപ്പുഴ യിലേക്ക് മടങ്ങി.
വൈകിട്ട് തങ്ങളുടെ വീടുകളിലെത്തി രണ്ടുപേരും ആഹാരം കഴിക്കാന്‍ ഇരുന്നു. അപ്പോള്‍ ഗുരുവിന്റെ സമീപത്തിരുന്ന നന്ദകവാള്‍ വിറയ്കുന്നതായി കണ്ടു. ഇതേസമയം ശിഷ്യന്റെ വീട്ടില്‍ ഓലക്കുടയും വിറയ്കുന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. പരസ്പരം വിവരം പറയാന്‍ പുറപ്പെട്ട ഗുരുവും ശിഷ്യനും പാതിവഴികുള്ള വയലില്‍ വച്ച് കണ്ടുമുട്ടി. അവര്‍ വിവരങ്ങള്‍ അന്യോന്യം പറഞ്ഞു. തുടര്‍ന്ന് ജ്യോതിഷി പ്രശ്ന ചിന്ത ചെയ്തപ്പോള്‍ നന്ദക വാളിലും ഓലകുടയിലും കളരി വാതുക്കല്‍ ഭഗവതിയുടെ സാന്നിധ്യം കുടികൊള്ളുന്നതായി തെളിഞ്ഞു. തുടര്‍ന്ന് നന്ദക വാള്‍ ഗുരുക്കള്‍ കളരിയില്‍ പ്രതിഷ്ടിച്ചു പൂജിച്ചു. ഓലകുടയിലെ ദൈവ സാന്നിധ്യം ഒരു പീഠത്തിലേക്ക് ആവാഹിച്ചു വലിയവീടിനു കുറച്ചു വടക്ക് ഭാഗത്ത്‌ ഒരു കാവ് പണിതു അവിടെ പ്രതിഷ്ടിച്ചു. വെള്ളിവാളിൽ കുടികൊണ്ട ദേവി അങ്ങനെ ഒറവങ്കര ഭഗവതി തെയ്യക്കോലമായി. തണ്ടാൻ എന്ന ആചാര പേരുള്ള ശിഷ്യനെ തെയ്യക്കോലമായി കണക്കാക്കി തണ്ടാറാച്ചൻ എന്ന തെയ്യക്കോലമായി കെട്ടിയടിക്കാറുണ്ട്.
വണ്ണാന്‍ സമുദായക്കാരാണ് ഈ തെയ്യം കെട്ടിയാടുന്നത്‌.

The legend of Thandarachan Theiyat is also related to the legend of Oravankara Bhagavati Bhagavati.
Oravankara Bhagavathy is a Theiyam that hangs in the watershed areas of Matamangalam.
A long time ago, the majority of people in Panapuzha belonged to the Theiya community.
About three hundred years ago (around AD 700) there was a family here who were worshipers of Mantramurtis, astrology and teaching. There was a guru in this family who was famous for astrology and magic. In those days when formal education did not exist, he used to teach children besides writing and reading, arts and magic. For this, a kalari was set up near the house and teaching was conducted. Many members of the Theiya community became disciples of the Guru. Among them, a man named Atiyamkulam Thandan from the family of Valiyaveed was prominent among his disciples.
At that time Panapuzha was under the control of Chirakal lord.
Lord Chirakal, who came to know about Panapuzha Kalari, called the Gurus to Angam. In those days when there was no opposition to Thiruvai, if you called, you couldn't help but go. The Guru decided to go to Angam with his main disciple in the big house. The day before Angam, the Guru and the disciple set out for Chirakkal Kovilaka, holding the mantra murtis of Kalari and the family deities of Valiyaveed. On the way, we stopped at Vellalam Shiva temple and reached Valapatnam in the evening. When it got dark, they went to a hut where they saw a light in the distance. An old woman lived there. When I gave all the information, I was allowed to stay there that day. The old woman said that when she left for Kovilaka the next morning, she should go to the nearby Kalari Vathukkal temple and seek the blessings of Bhagwati. Accordingly the Guru and the disciple reached the temple. It was the time when Bhagwati's Theyam came out. Guru's disciples clothed Bhagwati with things. Bhagavati was pleased with them and blessed them with a Nandakawal. Guru and disciple reached Kovilaka with that sword. They saw the sight of the Lord's soldiers standing ready for battle. But the soldiers started fainting due to the miraculous rays that emanated from the Nandaka sword in the Guru's hand. The king, who was horrified by this sight, accepted them and gave them the position of Acharya. Gift a cane to the Guru and a straw umbrella to the disciple with the title of Tandayan. Both of them returned to Panapuzha happily.
Both of them reached their homes in the evening and sat down to eat. Then Nandakawal, who was near the Guru, was seen trembling. At the same time, the thatched roof was also shaking in the disciple's house. Guru and disciple who set out to inform each other met in the field halfway. They told each other the information. Then when the astrologer pondered the problem, it became clear that the presence of Kalari Vathukkal Bhagavathy resided in Nandaka Val and Olakuda. Then Nandaka Val gurus worshiped and worshiped in Kalari. The presence of God in Olakuda was summoned to a pedestal and a kav was built a little to the north of the big house and enshrined there. Goddess Kutikonda on the silver sword and thus Oravankara Bhagavathy became Theiyakolam. A disciple with the customary name of Thandan is treated as a Theiyakolam and tied as a Theiyakolam called Thandarachan.
