VADAKKATHI BHAGAVATHI (PADAKKATHI BHAGAVATHI) വടക്കത്തി ഭഗവതി (പടക്കത്തി ഭഗവതി):
അര്‍ദ്ധ പുരുഷ സങ്കല്‍പ്പത്തിലുള്ള ശിവ പുത്രിയായ ഈ ദേവി മരക്കല ദേവതയാണ്. ദുഷ്പ്രഭുക്കളായ അസുരന്‍മാരെ കൊന്നൊടുക്കാന്‍ പുറപ്പെട്ട തന്റെ ശിഷ്യന്‍ കൂടിയായ പരശുരാമനെ സഹായിക്കാന്‍ വേണ്ടി പരമേശ്വരന്‍ സൃഷ്ടിച്ചതാണ് ഈ ദേവതയെ എന്നാണു ഐതിഹ്യം. അസുരനെ വധിക്കാനായി പരശുരാമനോടൊപ്പം പടക്കെത്തിയ ഭഗവതിയായത് കൊണ്ടാണ് ‘പടക്കത്തി ഭഗവതി’ എന്ന പേര് വന്നത്. എന്നാല്‍ ദേവിയുടെ ശരിയായ നാമധേയം ‘വടക്കത്തി ഭഗവതി’യാണെന്നും ഭൂമിയിലെത്തിയ ദേവി എങ്ങോട്ട് പോകണമെന്നറിയാതെ വിഷമിച്ചു എന്നും അവസാനം വടക്ക് ഭാഗത്തേക്ക് പോകാന്‍ തീരുമാനിച്ചു എന്നും അങ്ങിനെയാണ് ഈ പേര് വന്നതെന്നും പറയപ്പെടുന്നു.
ശിവപുത്രിയെന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ദേവിയുടെ സൃഷ്ടിയെക്കുറിച്ച് മറ്റൊരു കഥ കൂടിയുണ്ട്. പാല്‍ക്കടലില്‍ വെള്ളിമാന്‍ കല്ലിനരികത്ത് എഴു മടലുകളും എട്ട് തിരുളുകളുമുള്ള ഒരു കരിമ്പന ഉണ്ടെന്നും അതിന്റെ എട്ടാം തിരുളിന്റെ മുകളില്‍ ഏഴു പൊന്മുട്ടകള്‍ ഉണ്ടെന്നും അതില്‍ ആറു മുട്ടയുടഞ്ഞു ആറു മലകളായി പോയി ചെന്ന് വീണു എന്നും അതില്‍ നിന് ആറു പേര് ഉണ്ടാകുകയും ഏഴാം മുട്ടയുടഞ്ഞ് ഒരു ദേവ കന്യക ഉണ്ടായി എന്നും പറയപ്പെടുന്നു. പന്ത്രണ്ടാം വയസ്സില്‍ കന്യക ഋതുമതിയായപ്പോള്‍ തിരണ്ടു കല്യാണം ആഘോഷമാക്കാന്‍ ആറു ആങ്ങിളമാരും വന്നു ചേര്‍ന്നു. തിരണ്ടു കല്യാണത്തിനു വേണ്ട ഇറച്ചിക്ക് വേണ്ടി ആറു പേരും നായാട്ടിനു കരിയൂര്‍ കല്‍വളവില്‍ മാനെയ്യാന്‍ പോയി. എന്നാല്‍ നായാട്ടു കഴിഞ്ഞു മടങ്ങി വരുന്ന അവരെ മച്ചിനിയന്‍മാര്‍ മലയവകാശം പറഞ്ഞു വഴി തടയുകയും മാന്‍ തലയും കാലും തങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് വേണമെന്ന് ശഠിക്കുകയും ആ വാക്കേറ്റം യുദ്ധത്തില്‍ കലാശിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തതിന്റെ ഫലമായി മച്ചിനിയന്‍മാര്‍ അവരെ ആറു പേരെയും യമപുരിക്കയക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.
ഇതറിഞ്ഞ ദേവി തപസ്സു ചെയ്തു ശക്തി നേടി മച്ചിനിയന്‍മാരെ വധിച്ചു. പിന്നീട് പല നാടുകളില്‍ പോയി പലരോടും യുദ്ധം ചെയ്തു പതിനെട്ടു ആയുധങ്ങള്‍ സമ്പാദിച്ചു. ദേവേന്ദ്രന്റെ ആനയായ ഐരാവതത്തെ തോല്പ്പിച്ച് തുമ്പിക്കൈ കൈകൊണ്ടു. തുളു നാട്ടില്‍ ചെന്ന് ചേകവരെ തോല്പ്പിച്ച് തുളു താടിയും മീശയും കൈക്കൊണ്ടു. നെല്ലു കുത്തുന്ന പങ്ങാട്ടിയോടു പൊരുതി ഉലക്കയും മുറവും കൈക്കൊണ്ടു. ദേവേന്ദ്ര തണ്ടാത്തിയുടെ ചാണക്കലവും മാച്ചിയും പിടിച്ചു വാങ്ങി. തീയ്യനെ തോല്പ്പിച്ച് തളപ്പും ഏറ്റുകത്തിയും കൈകൊണ്ടു. എല്ലാ നാടുകളും ചുറ്റി കണ്ട ദേവി അവസാനം കോലത്ത് നാട് കാണാന്‍ ആഗ്രം പ്രകടിപ്പിക്കുകയും വിശ്വകര്‍മ്മാവിനെ വരുത്തി മരക്കലം പണിത് അതിലേറി കോലത്ത് നാട് മുഴുവന്‍ കണ്ട ശേഷം ഇടത്തൂര്‍ എത്തിയപ്പോള്‍ വിശ്വകര്‍മ്മാവിന്റെ അപേക്ഷ പ്രകാരം അവിടെ കുടിയിരുന്നു എന്നാണു ഐതിഹ്യം.

This goddess is the daughter of Lord Shiva in a semi-masculine form and is the goddess of wood. Legend has it that this deity was created by Lord Parameswara to help his disciple Parashurama who set out to kill the evil lords Asuras. The name 'Patakathi Bhagavathy' came from the fact that she was the Bhagavathy who accompanied Parasurama to kill the demon. But it is said that the proper name of the goddess is 'Vadakatthi Bhagavathy' and when the goddess reached the earth she was worried about where to go and finally decided to go to the north and that is how the name came.
There is another story about the creation of the goddess known as Shivaputri. It is said that there is a black pan with seven petals and eight petals in the milk sea near the Velliman stone, and on top of the eighth petal there are seven golden eggs, six eggs were hatched and fell into six mountains, six people were born from it, and a god maiden was born from the seventh egg. At the age of 12, when the virgin reached her period, the six Angilas came together to celebrate the Thirandu Kalyanam. In order to get meat for Thirandu's wedding, the six people went to hunt at Kariyur Kalvalam. But when they were returning after the hunt, the Machinians stopped them by claiming Malaya rights and insisted that they wanted the head and legs of the deer, and as a result of that argument, the Machinians sent all six of them to Yamapuri.
Knowing this, Devi did penance and gained strength and killed the Machinians. Later he went to many countries and fought with many people and acquired eighteen weapons. Defeated Devendra's elephant Airavata and took the trunk. He went to the Tulu country and defeated the Chekas and took the Tulu beard and moustache. He fought with the paddy thresher and took the sword and sword. Devendra took Thandati's dung bucket and matchstick and bought it. Defeated Theiyan and took the sword and sword. Legend has it that Devi, who had seen all the lands, finally expressed her eagerness to see the land of Kolath and invited Vishwakarma to build a wooden pot and after seeing the entire land of Kolath, reached Idatur, she drank there at the request of Vishwakarma.
