VANNATHI POTHI / VANNATHI BHAGAVATHI വണ്ണാത്തിപ്പോതി (വണ്ണാത്തി ഭഗവതി):
തെയ്യക്കാരനായ പെരുവണ്ണാന്റെ ധര്മ്മപത്നിയായിരുന്നു വണ്ണാത്തി. നാട്ടുകാര്‍ക്കെല്ലാം തീണ്ടാരിക്കുളി കഴിഞ്ഞാല്‍ വണ്ണാത്തിമാറ്റ് നല്‍കിവരുന്ന വണ്ണാത്തി അന്നും പതിവ് പോലെ മാറ്റുമായി ഇറങ്ങിയതായിരുന്നു. ഉച്ചവെയിലില്‍ നടന്നു വരുന്ന വണ്ണാത്തിയെ കാഞ്ഞിരക്കെട്ടിന്റെ ഇടയില്‍ നിന്നും കരുവാള്‍ ഭഗവതി കണ്ടു. കാട്ടുമൂര്ത്തിയായ ഭഗവതി ഇല്ലത്തളയിട്ട് കറുമ്പിയായി വഴിവക്കില്‍ നിന്ന് മൂന്നാംകുളി കഴിഞ്ഞ എനിക്കും മാറ്റ് വേണമെന്നപെക്ഷിചപ്പോള്‍ കാട്ടാളത്തിക്ക് മാറ്റെന്തിന് എന്ന് പരിഹസിച്ചു വണ്ണാത്തി മുന്നോട്ടു നീങ്ങിയപ്പോള്‍ കാട്ടുപെണ്ണ്‍ വഴി തടഞ്ഞു.കോപിഷ്ഠയായ അവള്‍ വണ്ണാത്തിയെ പാറക്കല്ലില്‍ അടിച്ചു കൊന്നു. മരണാനന്തരം അവള്‍ വണ്ണാത്തി പോതിയായി.

Vannathi was the consort of Peruvannan, a tea maker.
Vannathi, who is giving vannathimat to all the locals after the Tendarikuli, had come down with the mat as usual. Karuwal Bhagwati saw Vannathi walking in the afternoon sun from among the wormwood. When Bhagavathy, the goddess of beauty, wanted a mat after taking the third bath from the road as Karumpi, she mocked and said, "What is the need for a mat?" When Vannathi moved forward, the wild woman blocked the way. She got angry and killed Vannathi with a rock. After her death she became Vannathi Pothi.
