വസൂരി രോഗത്തിനു കാരണമായ ദേവതയാണ് വസൂരിമാല. ദാരികാസുരന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ മനോദരിയാണത്രേ ഈ ദുര്‍ദേവത. ശിവനില്‍ നിന്ന് ലഭിച്ച വിയര്‍പ്പ് മുത്തുകള്‍ തന്റെ ഭര്‍തൃഘാതകിയായ കാളിക്ക് നേരെ മനോദരി വലിച്ചെറിഞ്ഞപ്പോള്‍ കാളിക്ക് മേലാസകലം കുരിപ്പ് വന്നു. കോപാകുലയായ കാളി മനോദരിയുടെ കണ്ണ്‍ കുത്തിപ്പൊട്ടിക്കുകയും അവരെ തന്റെ ദന്ധ ദാസിയാക്കി മാറ്റുകയും ചെയ്തുവത്രേ.

When she threw the beads of sweat from Shiva on Kali, her husband-slayer, Kali got blisters all over her body. Enraged, Kali poked out Manodari's eye and turned her into his slave girl.
